The return of the Memphis soul/funk/jazz trio and their first album since 2010. The City Champs are made up of Al Gamble (St. Paul & The Broken Bones), George Sluppick (Chris Robinson Brotherhood), and Joe Restivo (Don Bryant, Bo-Keys).

Written and produced by Valerie Simpson and Nickolas Ashford and recorded in 1968 and scheduled for release in 1970 by Motown but it never came to pass until this collection. Sammy Davis Jr. heard her voice when he was recording at RCA Studios and ended up opening and working with him for the next nine years. Motown never had a place for her after her initial debut single failed to chart.

Normally I play the Betty Everett version but this is cool, too. Written by Clint Ballard and originlly released in 1963 on the Jubilee label.

One of my favorite songs I've heard in 2021 off one of my favorite albums of 2021. Highly recommended. Carla Thomas is providing some of the backing vocals on this.
