This James Brown song was always a highlight during later Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings sets. Great to finally hear it captured on a recording even though you can't experience the frenetic dance steps she would put into this. Recorded live at the Apollo in 2014. Listen to how tight the Dap-Kings sound on this.

Written by guitarist Robin Allen and drummer/percussionist Doug Morgan (of The Record Sto' fame) and found on the St. Louis band's debut recording. The late, great producer Hal Willner has put together a number of tribute albums with an eclectic array of artists. This tribute to the first album by the Velvet Underground, "The Velvet Underground & Nico," was his final project. This opening track was written by Lou Reed and John Cale and features Bill Frisell on guitar and backing vocals by Michael Stipe's younger sister, Lynda Stipe.

You probably know of Chicago singer-songwriter Steve Dawson through his bands Dolly Varden and Funeral Bonsai Wedding but his new solo debut release is getting lots of notice and garnering much praise in various music publications. Well-deserved and containing some of his finest songs.

Sam Nicholson is a really fine songwriter and harmonies have really been put to the forefront on this new album by the Australian band now based out of Melbourne. Jangly, literate, and tuneful and one of the best albums I've heard this year.

This is a work of exquisite beauty. There is no other way to put it. This entire album is stripped down to just the vocals of Scottish singer-songwriter, Karine Polwart, and the piano of Scottish jazz pianist, Dave Milligan. This was written by the late Michael Marra who was a singer, songwriter, and actor out of Dundee, Scotland.

This album is the first collaboration between the two Irish singer-songwriters. "Tell me when you're ready to never be satisfied." Highly recommended.
