I've been playing the hell out of her new album, and deservedly so, but I read recently that this Ry Cooder album was her very favorite album that she's recorded. This traditional song was arranged by Ry Cooder and Mavis Staples and features Ry Cooder on slide guitar and Ladysmith Black Mambazo on backing vocals.

Luther Dickinson has paired up his guitar prowess with the talents of Shardé Thomas, Amy Helm, Amy LaVere, The Como Mamas, and Birds of Chicago. Alvin Youngblood Hart guests on guitar for this one song. Luther Dickinson co-founded the North Mississippi Allstars who will be at Off Broadway tonight (Thursday 8/1) and the Blue Lotus Revue is opening. Highly recommended.

Chris Stamey just put out what is essentially a jazz album made up of 26 songs and featuring a slew of different vocalists and instrumentalists. This one features the vocals of Django Haskins and the sax of Branford Marsalis. This one is Chris Stamey's love letter to New York. Ambitious, beautifully produced, and tuneful as can be. Highly recommended.

Sixties influences abound on this highly recommended new release from the band out of Medway, England. All songs written by Alan Crockford (formerly of the Prisoners) but this particular song features the lead vocals of organist Viv Bonsels.
