He played rhythm guitar and was an integral part of the Muscle Shoals sound. Along with cohorts bassist David Hood, drummer Roger Hawkins, and keyboardist Barry Beckett, they were nicknamed the "Swampers" and played on hundreds of songs. If you don't know the name Jimmy Johnson, you definitely have heard Jimmy Johnson. He played on "Respect" by Aretha Franklin, "I'm Your Puppet" by James and Bobby Purify, "I'd Rather Go Blind" by Etta James, "Kodachrome" by Paul Simon, and so many more hits. This show will feature lots of songs that Jimmy Johnson played on. RIP.
