bring down the walls / sinners combust at yur mum's house
This week at yur mum's house: how can house music defeat the prison industrial complex? Bring Down the Walls was a 2018 art exhibit and teach-in that answered this revolutionary call. The event concluded late into the night with classic house covers recorded by formerly incarcerated musicians and singers alongside New York’s underground musicians played that concluded with an EPIC dance party at Manhattan’s historic firehouse, Firehouse, Engine Company 31. The first half of the show features tracks from the benefit album, Bring Down the Walls, and you can still buy the vinyl on Bandcamp which benefits Critical Resistance!
On the back half of yur mum's house, things get churchy. The roots of house in gospel come out with the full force of a holy spirit in these tracks that sometimes make you wonder on the dancefloor, "Is this a song about Jesus ("He/Him"...or man-love ("he/him")...or both?"
Whether singing about sex, love, freedom, or liberation on this plane or some other one, house music will take you to church.
