We're all familiar with the stories: a phone call foretells a death in seven days, a shambling masked thing stalks someone on their way home, a house promises comfort only to trap you in its web. There are many reasons to fear these things, and yet we find ourselves drawn to them, telling their stories time and time again.

Each week, we will look at one concept, theme, or device in horror media (e.g.: the haunted house, isolation, technology), and discuss the many ways it is explored and how it has changed over time. The objects of our fascination and terror take on many forms. The more we learn about them, the more we may learn about ourselves as a society and as individuals.
