Solo
Music
Thu 9.00PM–12.00AM
Solo focuses on songs that have an extended section in which there is no singing and one instrument performs the dominant piece. Usually the instrument is an electric or acoustic guitar. For those who appreciate the special beauty, depth and vibrancy of guitar playing, the guitar solo is the best part of the song. It is the part that can make your heart race or it can put you into a hypnotic dream state. Artists like Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young, David Gilmour and many others come to mind. In the genre of Rock, the guitar dominates; but solos are not solely limited to guitars. The harmonica is a solo instrument in the hands of Bob Dylan. Jerry Lee Lewis used the piano as a solo instrument in "Great Balls of Fire". There are examples from the Classical realm too, for example Phillip Glass's 'Mad Rush' is a piano solo. Solo will delve into this sub-genre of music that focuses on the magnificence of a particular instrument and allows it to sing alone.
