We will be talking about a well known hip hop group formed in the 80’s. Their mix of jazz in their hip hop style with their conscious, yet carefree lyrics led them to be one of the most progressive and crucial groups of the generation. Some consider them the pioneers of alternative hip hop! We are of course talking about the fabled group, A Tribe Called Quest. The group consisted of rapper and producer Q-Tip, rapper Phife Dog, DJ and producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and rapper Jerobi White. They started as members from the Native Tongues Collective, a group of other hip hop artists that included The Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah, De La Soul, and others. Their creative beats accompanied with lyrics that often spoke out about deeply rooted societal problems, as well as just some fun lyrics, influenced a whole wave of hip hop and r&b artists. They have forever impacted the culture of hip hop.
