“The Wheel” is a show about the evolution and cyclical nature of music trends. On our show we will explore the tendency of musicians to take inspiration from and build off of previous ideas. We are interested in showing the range of musical concepts and how different artists can interpret the same basic trend in their own way. Each week will investigate a different topic ranging from artists inspiring other artists, band composition, reinvention of genre, use of instrumentation, and more. We hope to highlight different musicians’ attempt to “reinvent the wheel” by adding their own flair and putting a new spin on pre-existing notions. Segments during talk breaks include The Weekly Wheel—hosts spin a wheel of conversation topics relating to the week’s theme to spark discussion—and our rotating wheel of guests that will weigh in on the subject of the week. The aim is to reach music enjoyers and wheel lovers alike. Our hope is that listeners will hear some familiar favorites while also being exposed to new music in the same vein.
