Two of Mali's great musical ambassadors, guitarist-singer-songwriter Habib Koité & ngoni virtuoso Bassekou Kouyaté, will be performing together here in Portland later this month in Portland at Revolution Hall (2/27). This week's installment of Africa O-Yé! features the music of Habib Koité & Bassekou Kouyaté, and we will also pay tribute to the late Zimbabwean musician Oliver Mtukudzi.

A Different Nature presents more from two remarkable vocalists: Sussan Deyhim (working with Richard Horowitz) and Saadet Türköz (with Elliott Sharp and her group Urumchi) plus Kronos Quartet interprets music from Azerbaijan, China, India, Palestine, and Turkey with collaborators Alim Qasimov, Ramallah Underground, Taraf de Haïdouks, and Wu Man. Plus, the centerpiece of this evening's program: Green Memories: a "structured improvisation work" by Iranian composer Shahrokh Yadegari -a piece involving Yadegari's interacive computer program 'Lila' and featuring the violinist Keyavash Nourai and vocalist Azam Ali.

We'll listen to music from many artists keeping that legacy alive today, including The Afromotive, Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble, Chicago Afrobeat Project, The Daktaris, Femm Nameless, Kaleta & Zozo Afrobeat, Seun Kuti, Bukky Leo, and Mamud Band.
