KCSB-FM 91.9

Monday, January 3: A conversation & a "listening party" sesh with Robert Caputi, an old friend from UCSB who's now a Professor of Sociology at Florida Atlantic University (in Broward County, near Miami).

Rob was a regular SoCal concert-mate of yours truly throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. He's from Huntington, Long Island, NY. He graduated with a bacherlor's degree from Columbia University, and earned his PhD at UCSB in 2010. Dr. Caputi is interested in "human geography research methods" and consumer culture, and he currently teaches classes on media culture, urban sociology, the sociology of sports, gender, and society.

He has roots in the NYC punk rock scene, especially the old Hardcore Matinee tradition at the former CBGB & OMFUG in the East Village, and is a fan and booster of Santa Barbara's (and Southern California's) own rock-music history, including the lively punk and power-pop scenes of the 1990s, which will provide the main focus for today's broadcast.
