John Lennon of The Beatles was said to have told fans Mary McGlory and Sylvia Saunders, backstage at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, "Girls don't play guitars."

The two Liverpudlians went on to form an all-female quartet, The Liverbirds, who mostly played (and recorded) rock'n'roll covers between 1963-1968.

The Monday, March 14th edition of "The Freak Power Ticket" surveys a selection of rock music from around the globe primarily created by women. On guitars, drums, keys, etc.

Most of these groups toiled in obscurity, but it's the stuff of legends that deserve greater attention.

The SBIFF ended Saturday night after a successful "post-pandemic," in-person revival. (This show is partly inspired by the new rockumentary film, Fanny: The Right to Rock, which screened last week.)
