Jazz has been a huge part of my life since the first time I picked up a pair of drumsticks at the age of 10. I had a great music instructor who from the very beginning turned me on to remarkable recordings, from Bartok and Stravinsky to Bird and Brubeck, to Thelonious Monk and Cecil Taylor. It taught me that the line between different musical genres is a very thin and near totally non-existent boundary. As a drummer I've been blessed to have shared the bandstand with some of the greatest music legends of the past and current generations. I have been broadcasting music on the radio since 1977 beginning over the airwaves of stations in Los Angeles and then the San Francisco area on KJAZ, it was in 1989 when I first joined the staff at KCSM-FM91. It was some time around the turn of the century that I began building my studio and since then have been producing Jazz from Gallery 41 streaming around the world 24/7. I deeply appreciate every opportunity to share the music with you. Jazz is truly a universal language that continues to grow and evolve thanks to a new generation of musicians who are taking the music to genuinely unique and exciting places. And with the advent of internet broadcasting I hear from artists from around the world. Jazz is very much alive and well, and for me it's an honor to share the entire spectrum of this music from the Blues to the Avant-garde. So from my studio in the hills that overlook the San Francisco Bay I produce the internet broadcast named Jazz from Gallery 41 and strive to present a unique blend of Jazz that is streaming 24/7, with live shows that include the occasional in studio guest, conversations and live performances. I also produce a special edition of Jazz from Gallery 41 that airs on KCSM-FM91 Saturday evenings from 10 pm - 2 am (PT).
