| Vernon Dalhart The Prisoner's Song Best of the Best BMG 1999 Recorded in 1924 for the Victor label, this was the B-side of "Wreck of the Old 97." It sold more than 7 million copies, an unheard-of figure for that era. He recorded more than 5000 songs, often the same one by using more than 100 pseudonyms.

| G.B. Grayson & Henry Whitter Tom Dooley The Recordings of Grayson & Whitter (1928-1930) County 1998 Recorded in 1929 for the Victor label, this was the first version of the ballad of Tom Dula, who was captured by G.B. Grayson's uncle, James Grayson.

| Fiddlin' Arthur Smith & his Dixieliners Smith's Rag Fiddlin' Arthur Smith & His Dixieliners County Records 2002 His Dixieliners included folks like Sam and Kirk McGee, the Delmore Brothers, and, here, Clyde Moody and Bill Westbrook, real name Wesbrooks. They had joined a new outfit formed a month earlier by Bill Monroe called the Blue Grass Boys and Moody and Wesbrooks recorded this song on the same day and in the same WSB studio in Atlanta as were the first Monroe recordings with his new outfit.

| Clint Hasse I Could've Been George Jones' Son L Inside Nashville Silktone Records 2017 Clint put out this album in 2017 with some of Nashville's best, including Dennis Crouch, Eugene Moles and Doug Jernigan, who plays steel on this one. Clint could have been Georgette's half-brother.

| Merle Haggard Huntsville Down Every Road 1962-1994 Capitol 1996 Hag died on his 79th birthday four years ago on April 6th. There won't be another one like him. Here's a deep cut he co-wrote with Red Simpson and recorded for Capitol in 1971.

| DeWitt "Scotty" Scott Cold Cold Heart L St. Louis Blues Midland Records 1989 In 1968 Scotty held his first steel guitar convention at the Parkway Motel as a crowd of about 75 people attended. The last convention was in 2015, just a few weeks before Scotty passed away on September 23 at the age of 83.

| Connie Smith Once a Day The Essential Connie Smith RCA 1996 Recorded in 1964 and written by Bill Anderson, this was Weldon Myrick's steel guitar debut. The song spent eight weeks at #1 and later prompted Connie to say that Myrick was "the guy who was responsible for creating the Connie Smith sound.

| Hank Snow & His Rainbow Ranch Boys The Rhumba Boogie R I'm Movin' On, 1949-1953 Bear Family 1988 James wanted to hear this Hank Snow tune from the RCA label in 1951. Hank was an early country music explorer of Caribbean sounds as Johnny and Jack were also doing at the same time.
