I love the Hendrix electric version of this song and I love this original acoustic version. Bob Dylan plays guitar, harmonica, and piano on this and the rhythm section heavyweights are multi-instrumentalist Charlie McCoy on bass and Kenny Buttrey on drums.

Previously unissued alternate demo of the Ray Davies composition recorded in London in 1965.

Written by Harry Nilsson and produced by John Lennon. 1974 was one of the years of excesses for both artists and this is a ramshackle affair complicated by the not-so-minor matter of Harry Nilsson suffering a vocal cord rupture during the recording. This is a really fine track, however.

This duo was made up of Sidney “Birdlegs” Banks and his wife Pauline Banks. After their marriage broke up, she recorded some singles under her maiden name, Pauline Shivers. This is a reissue of their 1964 album and Pauline sounds flat out wonderful on this George Gershwin / Ira Gershwin / DuBose Heyward standard.

The Brooklyn-based duo is made up of identical twins, Adam and David Moss. Add this one to the list of great covers of the Tom T. Hall song which also includes Kelly Willis, Solomon Burke, Buddy Miller, and Karl Blau. I'm sure I'm missing some others, as well.

This Lesley Gore Hit was written by John Madara and David White. Margo Price: "I keep finding renewed meaning in the lyrics. This album of all instrumental versions of Beatles songs is highly recommended!

One of the best Beatles covers ever and it happens to be on his debut album. That voice with the sublime backing vocals of Madeline Bell, Sunny Weetman and Rossetta Hightower still floors me.

See earlier Speedy West & Jimmy Bryant entry. His lyrics vary more than a little from those sung by Kay Starr and Tennessee Ford. This is one of the bonus tracks on this reissue of his 1974 album.
