A set of new music kicks off today's show, with Sunny Sweeney's fine new album taking center stage. Producer Paul Cauthen sings on this one.

Bill Bolick was born 105 years ago this coming Friday and as The Blue Sky Boys with brother, Earl, they influenced both the Louvin Brothers and The Everly Brothers. Here they cover a Merle Travis song on WCYB in Bristol, VA in 1949.

Jason Romero used eight of his homemade banjos in recording the 16 songs on this album. This one uses "Birdie", so-named I imagine because its principal material is birdseye maple.

From a 1963 RCA recording, a cover of a song written by King Records A & R man and recording artist Henry Glover. Floyd was solidly established as an A-List Nashville musician by this time.

One co-written by birthday boy Dallas Frazier and his frequent collaborator, A.L. "Doodle" Owens. Mickey Raphael took some of Willie's old RCA recordings from the '60s, stripped them of their Nashville Sound strings and choral ensembles, and the result was Naked Willie.

She is 83 years old and I don't know how much longer she will be touring, but you can catch Judy at the Sheldon Concert Hall next Wednesday, the 26th, 8PM. This Ian Tyson song originally appeared on her 1968 record "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?" Stellar support from Buddy Emmons, James Burton, Stephen Stills (Suite: Judy Blue Eyes) and Van Dyke Parks.

Rodney plays Off Broadway all by his lonesome next Tuesday, the 25th. He gets help from Vince Gill on this one that Rodney co-wrote with Guy Clark.

I got an advanced copy of Melissa Carper's new album, due out next month. Lots of fine players like Rory Hoffman, Billy Contreras and Dennis Crouch, who produced it. Chris Scruggs, who plays guitar and steel guitar on this one as he did on her last release has dubbed Melissa "HillBillie Holiday." Well done, Chris!

A short set with a song from each of the performers who went into the Country Music Hall of Fame last Sunday. There are some bonus tracks on this release, including the title track, but the original album which had this song came out in 1982. Sending this one out to Speedy.

So pleased to see Jerry Lee get his due at last. This is a 1968 Mercury recording. This year's third inductee is record company executive Joe Galante.

Jim Lauderdale has a new album out of all-original co-writes.

After many years as a sideman and producer, Lloyd Maines steps into the spotlight with the first album released under his name. Sending this one out to the musical Sullivan family, who, I understand are Irish.

David Quinn is a country fresh talent originally from Illinois. Excellent support from Fats Kaplin, Brent Resnick et. al. on the record.

The Kings are harmonica and clarinet ace Mark Graham and Edwardsville native and strings wizard Orville Johnson, here with an original tune. Hard to believe this album came out more than 25 years ago.

These venerable and veteran musicians put out a fine album last year, which included this song written by the late Paul Siebel.

A set of songs from birthday boy Dwight Yoakum takes us out of today's show, this one the title track to his debut in 1986, originally released as an EP.

Dwight can begin collecting social security with his 66th birthday tomorrow. Here, from an appearance on Austin City Limits on his 32nd birthday in 1988 he sings the title track to his latest album released two months earlier. As he notes, the great Flaco Jimenez on the accordion.

A terrrific cover of the Parsons/Hillman classic from two great voices, recorded specifically for this decade-ending release.
