With East Side Slim
East Side Slim takes you cruising on many musical roads, with all leading back to the crossroad - the blues. Come on along for the ride on Rhythm Highways. You'll hear American music - music that swings, rolls and comes from the soul. Tune in to hear blues, R&B, gospel, swing, soul, rock 'n' roll, jazz and roadhouse, even the occasional honky tonk or western swing song. Rhythm Highways - it's an East Side groove.

| Pete Gage St. James Infirmary Out of Hours Goofin' Records 1997 Long time frontman for England's Dr. Feelgood band with a solo piano and voice album, taking St. James where it needs to go...this is not a jaunty, happy lyric and shouldn't be performed as a 'party' tune. Well done, Pete Gage!

| Elizabeth Cotten Mama, Nobody's Here but the Baby Shake Sugaree Smithsonian Folkways Recordings 2004 This is the LONG version of this song on the CD, as there is one that's only 53 seconds long. That said, Libby Cotten was one of the finest Piedmont pickers there ever was. Truly outstanding!

| The Staple Singers Move Along Train For What It's Worth The Complete EPIC Recordings 1964-1968 Sony 2018 Move Along Train was the closing tune on the group's 1966 album 'Why', and was composed by Pops Staples. The Epic Records period is my favorite of the Staples (along w/ the Riverside). Somewhere between the older sounds of their Vee-Jay days but not as free-wheeling as the Stax years. Great stuff.

Chick Webb did NOT initially want Ella in his band...the other orchestra members has to threaten to leave en-masse if she wasn't hired. They knew she was that good. Chick didn't think she looked cute enough....which was unfathomable as Chick himself was diminutive and deformed by disease.
