Written by John Jacob Loeb, Billy Rose, and Paul Francis Webster and originally released in 1939 on the Parlophone label.

Written by Charles Sheffield and recorded for the Nashville-based Excello label in 1961. This is a big favorite on Sunny Boy Mason's highly recommended Howzit Bayou program which airs every Tuesday from 4-7 pm.

From the Detroit band's debut album. Written by John Bunkley. This one will get the Halloween party in full swing!

Originally released as the a-side on a 1963 LuPine single under the name "Betty Lavett." She would have been around seventeen when this was recorded.

This is the original version of a song recorded by a number of other artists such as Johnny Otis, The Spellbinders, and Wilko Johnson. Written by Alvin Johnson and Edwin Johnson and originally released in 1959 on the Valor label.

There are a lot of great versions of this song. I played the Nina Simone version earlier this year. The Alan Price and Annie Lennox versions are also highly recommened. Can't go wrong with the original version of this song. Recorded in 1956 for the OKeh label and written by Screamin' Jay Hawkins.

The best Halloween release of 2019 - two CDs of vintage 45s culled from Lux and Ivy's (of the Cramps) haunted basement. This was originally released as a single on the Cadence label (which Archie Bleyer founded) in 1956. Written by Steve Allen. Archie Bleyer also produced the Everly Brothers in the late fifties.

There's no way I'm leaving this off a Halloween show. You, too, can sing along to this continually modulating musical adaptation of the Edgar Allan Poe poem by the ridiculously talented Chicago band made up of Kelly Hogan, Nora O’Connor, Scott Ligon, Casey McDonough, and Alex Hall.

Recorded a couple of years prior to their "Rock The Boat" hit. Beware the vampire! Highly recommended funk and soul soundtrack.

Close enough to a Halloween theme for me. Lots of gospel came out of the Cleveland-based Boddie label. This is not that.

Not often heard version of the Classics IV song very often. Recorded in 1968. "Just like a ghost, you've been a-hauntin' my dreams / So I'll propose on Halloween / Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you."

This is another perennial M2M Halloween favorite from the fine guitarist and singer/songwriter out of Chicago.

The aforementioned Robin Bienemann is the one who made me aware of George Barnes. Instrumental penned by guitar virtuoso George Barnes and recorded in 1962 for the Mercury label.

Tom Mennerick is a local musician who doesn't really play out (to the best of my knowledge, anyway) but he's a prolific songwriter and loyal listener. He pulls off the not-often achieved task of writing a poignant Halloween song. Like I said about his last year's contribution of a song called "Hallow's Eve,' this is a lo-fi Halloween gem.

Great version of a song first recorded by the Gaylads but then made popular way later by the Cramps. Mary Huff on lead vocals.

Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle recorded this for the 1975 Mel Brooks film, "Young Frankenstein." "Super duper!" Arranged by John Morris who worked as a composer and arranger on most of Mel Brooks' films.

Recorded in 1990 and found on this compilation of various artists covering songs written by Roky Erickson. One of my favorite Roky Erickson covers.

Live 1970 version of a John Fogerty-penned song. After fifty years, this live concert is finally being released. Coming out at the same time is a documentary concert film "Travelin’ Band: Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Royal Albert Hall." Restored and mixed by Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell.

Originally released by the New Orleans band in 1962 on the A.F.O. label.

Sara Lee is based out of Finland and this cover is a single B-side from 2020. Originally recorded in 1961 by Jim Burgett. ""The living dead are those who live without love."

"It reminds me of when I was 14 at the fair / Declaring things I'd never been / Well you always said it was just like Sugar Mountain / But I didn't know it then / And it felt like Halloween / Everyone was waving as the car pulled out to leave / And that old song came back to me / Like something you'd remember from a dream"

Taken from this collection of different songs that accompanied surf movies. This menacing song was in a film called "Dear Suburbia" and was originally recorded in 1998. Written by Nick Cave, Mick Harvey, and Thomas Wydler. It has found newfound fame by being the theme song for "Peaky Blinders."
