Lead-off track from his debut album penned by Bobby Timmons. The rhythm section on this is Sam Jones on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums.

Taken from this new compilation capturing some tracks of the UK music scene from 1960-1963 right before the Beatles took off. Lyn Cornell was from Liverpool and started out with the Vernon Girls. This was recorded for the Decca label in 1961. Jon Hendricks wrote the lyrics and added them to an existing Bobby Timmons melody. I happened to play Lyn Cornell last week, as well. This completes a Bobby Timmons trifecta of sorts.

RIP Jerry Lee Lewis who just passed away at age 87. A song stylist and performer of the highest order. Probably best not to be in his inner circle, however. This is one of my favorite songs about Memphis. Written by Memphis songwriters Milton Addington, Allen Reynolds, and Dickey Lee. Make no mistake about it, though. No matter who wrote songs he recorded, he made them Jerry Lee Lewis songs.

Thrill to the sounds of the UK-based Nashville Teens hanging on for dear life trying to keep up with Jerry Lee Lewis on one of the greatest live rock recordings, ever. Recorded live in 1964 in Hamburg, Germany.

Well, this sure doesn't sound like music coming out of Switzerland. This Zurich-based duo is comprised of brothers Estevan and Alejandro Gutiérrez. Produced by Dan Auerbach who, seemingly, can do no wrong these days.

Hailing from Mexico City, this is her first album of all original material since 2015. Mark Ribot was enlisted to play guitar on this album. Want to know more about her? Taken from the 2019 album by the singer, songwriter, arranger, cellist, multi-instrumentalist, and former member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops. A soulful ballad which hits me every time.

Next week I'll play a new version of this song by the Irish band, The Mary Wallopers. Kind of a contrast and compare kind of thing. Both versions are completely different from one another and I love them both.

Up until now, the Delines have never released any duets. They just put out this new single featuring two songs written by Willy Vlautin and featuring the duet vocals of Amy Boone and Willy Vlautin. I played the A-side a couple of weeks ago. This is the B-side. Bring on a whole album of these!

Quite a list of Nashville sessions greats on this: Harold Bradley, Jerry Kennedy, and Ray Edenton on guitars, Lloyd Green on pedal steel, Charlie McCoy on harmonica, among others. Produced by Jerry Kennedy.

Written by Dickie Thompson and recorded in 1954 for Decca. Always nice to look on the bright side, I suppose.

Written by Bob Wills and recorded in 1971. Featuring Merle Haggard on fiddle, Roy Nichols on guitar, Norm Hamlet on pedal steel, Billy Liebert on piano, and Bonnie Owens on harmony vocal.

The Austin singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist makes a strong case for what 1959 had to offer. At least, from a cultural standpoint.

One of the best albums I've heard this year.
