This East St. Louis band was originally put together to be the house band at Leo Gooden's "Blue Note" nightclub. This track was written B-3 player Don James. He was 24 years old when this was recorded. Kenny Rice plays drums on this and he was 20 years old when this was recorded. Soul jazz, indeed.

Bob & Earl (of Harlem Shuffle fame) recorded this Charlotte Cronander-penned dance number for the Crestview label in 1969. Arranged by Gene Page.

The former Bristols' vocalist has a new album out and it's made up half of originals and half cover versions of mostly obscure 60s songs. Like this song written by Warren Zevon and Violet Santangelo and originally recorded by Lyme & Cybelle in 1966.

This new album differs from his mainly instrumental releases in that Petra Haden sings lead on every song. Bill Frisell wrote the music and Julie Miller wrote the lyrics.

This new compilation is well-worth seeking out if you're a fan of soul gospel. Highly recommended gospel shaped around 60s and 70s secular soul. This originally was released a single b-side that came out on the Impel label but I can't find the release date, anywhere.

This Buffalo Springfield song penned by Stephen Stills was recorded in Chicago in 1967. A perennial M2M favorite.

The Cara Louise "Fragile Heart" EP Release Show will be taking place at Off Broadway on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 7 PM – 11:30 PM. Also on the bill are special guests: Bendigo Fletcher (Louisville, KY) and Essential Knots (STL, MO).

This album was most unexpected by me and in his long career, he's never put out an album like this. The use of the strings and horns on this album also add so much. Highly recommended.

Gurf Morlix plays everything but drums and Hammond B3 on this album. This song is about a friend of his who committed suicide and was written by him for those struggling. We've all known somebody like this. A gut punch, to be sure. Harmony by Jaimee Harris.
