The Tanec Ensemble was created in 1949 for the purpose of perserving and displaying Macedonian music and dance. It is still going strong to this day; this show celebrates its 74 years of service.

To celebrate Lynx Lynx, a Scandinavian folk duo coming to St. Louis June 27th. These musicians separately have formed several groups over the years, all steeped in tradition, but with a fresh approach.

Hungarian dances, in their original setting, were done in a fixed order in each set; this shows tries to capture that. these are all recordings by bands that play for dancing, not for "listening", but there is a certain energy that comes from that.

This show will feature Romanian music for reed wind instruments - clarinet, saxophone, taragot and - harmonica! We start though, with a nod to Orthodox Easter.

For a long time the rich tradition of Ashkenazic music was represented mostly by what came to be called "Klezmer" music, and was a product of Jewish music as it had developed in New York, absorbing Jazz influences in the process. Starting about 25 years ago there was renewed interest in What this music sounded like before WW II . Old tune and part books were found, and, supplemented by photographs from the era, and interviews with the few surviving musicians, a sense of instrumentation and sound developed into a revival of Jewish music, with folk groups in Europe as well as the US. This show is a brief documentation of this most interesting movement.

Balkan music, especially Bulgarian music, has become so popular that bands outside of Bulgaria play it, or use it as the basis for new compositions. Limited to the US 30 years ago. this is now a global phenomenon. This show showcases American, European, and Australian band that exhibit this trend.
