Local writer Lydia Howell explores local culture, art, and activism with interviews and special features. She won the PREMACK AWARD FOR PUBLIC INTEREST JOURNALISM for her investigative reporting on homelessness in (the now defunct) PULSE Newspaper.
Lydia is a long time denizen of KFAI who also writes for various communicty newspapers and online publications.
Tribute to MN Jazz Master: Irv Williams, saxophonist
Still playing and composing music at 100 years old, IRV WILLIAMS was courted by jazz greats Duke Ellington and Count Basie--but,rejected a life on the road and family in Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN. This program celebrates his music and compositions--while also being a bit of "Intro to jazz" with some of the vocal artists he backed (Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett).
