Mick Hayes - Hand Me Down 45's
Mick Hayes Hand Me Down 45's
My Claim to Fame mickhayesmusic.com 2020
"Growing up in upstate New York, Mick Hayes spent a lot of time in record shops, fostering his love for music and developing an affinity for the classics. His newest album, My Claim to Fame, was recorded in Muscle Shoal, Alabama at FAME Studios and impressively produced with entirely vintage equipment. This album’s unique and authentic sound is outstanding and a rare find in today’s supersaturated music industry. ...“Hand Me Down 45s” is a fantastic sing along that leans on the sentimental side. The song has an obvious vintage sound that fits the nostalgic lyrics. Somehow, Hayes is able to create a song that is relaxed and still completely soulful, and impressive feat for any musician." bluesrockreview.com

Great Peacock - All I Ever Do
Great Peacock All I Ever Do
Forever Worse or Better Great Peacock 2020
Nashville group; album coming out October 8. "Leave it to Great Peacock — a band whose big, bold sound has been sharpened by years of relentless touring — to create some of the most compelling rock & roll road music of the 21st century. Forever Worse Better, the band's third release, is an anthemic soundtrack for a life spent on the move, chasing down brighter horizons somewhere between the blur of truck stops and traffic lights....Forever Worse Better is an album born from the rigors of the road, and all the personal struggles that come with it. In 2020, the road looks much different, as live shows and touring have ground to a halt. Great Peacock have created a soundtrack for those of us who, like them, long to be back on the road to somewhere better, the windows down, the radio cranked high, songs moving through our head at highway speed." great peacock.com

Milton - Turn Around Columbus
Milton Turn Around Columbus
Studio City MoonfoxRecords 2019
"Mixing the tuckin’-on-black-coffee, heartland rock & roll of Bob Seger with the gentle-humor folk rock of John Prine, and delivering it to the 2000s coffeehouse generation, singly named Milton dredges tremendous American soul out of a somewhat slight frame. Milton worked the New York City folk scene beginning in the 1990s and between his eerily dark-etched voice and his inviting, somewhat anachronistic, melancholy country-folk compositions, he earned a fleet of devoted fans by the late '00s." Karen Jonas Be Sweet to Me
The Southwest Sky and Other Dreams self release karenjonas.com 2020
Karen Jonas hails from Fredericksburg,VA. "Karen Jonas’ fifth album The Southwest Sky and Other Dreams is a flashback-fueled fever dream of Americana songcraft and storytelling. Taking the vast desert expanses of the American Southwest as her backdrop, Jonas embroiders small-town snapshots into vivid explorations of our inner struggle between ambition and inaction. The Virginia singer-songwriter’s most accomplished and evocative expression to date, The Southwest Sky and Other Dreams captures that aching space between romantic dreamstate and numb reality like few before. “It's amazing that our brains are capable of sustaining this whole existence of imagination … of these dreams and goals and ambitions,” mulled Jonas, chatting from her Fredericksburg home. “But sometimes that's enough. Because sometimes the action isn't really critical to get you through the day.” karenjonasmusic.com

"The Atomic Road Kings is the project of two men from different times but of the same mind…the veteran (his word, not mine) harmonica man Eric “Jailhouse” Von Herzen, noted for his association with Walter Trout, Social Distortion, Kid Ramos, Junior Watson, and the 44s, amongst others; and the young multi-instrumentalist Big Jon Atkinson, who has trodden the boards as guitarist for Kim Wilson’s solo project." blues doodles.com

Kiss Of The Diamondback Rootball 2020
Message from Gurf: OK, here’s the deal – My new album is out. It’s called KISS OF THE DIAMONDBACK. Copies are here, and will be ready to ship soon. For the time being, email me at crangleman@gmail.com and I will give you all the info you need. It has a bunch of really good songs, I think, and a pretty unique lookin’ album cover. In my opinion, anyways. Let me know what you think about that. These are unique times, for sure. All the rules have been upended. All the fences are down. Or maybe they’re bigger than ever. I have no plans to tour until it’s safe, and there is no way of knowing when that’ll be. No way of knowing anything, at this point, except for the fact that all the income of touring musicians has been taken away. Whatever I make from the sales of these albums will likely be my only income for 2020. I’m not complaining. I’m extremely lucky to be able to do what I love, in the safety of my home. Many others are not so fortunate.

Rodney Rice Ain't Got a Dollar
Same Shirt, Different Day 2020
"If music can happen organically, planted in the heart and grown straight from the soul, Rodney Rice embodies the rich tales of life, past and present, through Same Shirt Different Day the follow up album from his debut (Empty Pockets and a Troubled Mind). A keen observer and witty raconteur, this West Virginia native blends the slick, smoothness, and simplicity of folk with a healthy dose of honky tonk and country. With musical influences spanning from @John Prine to the @GratefulDead, Rodney carries on a new generation of powerful yet unique songwriting that is truly a standalone gem." rodneyrice.com

F. Scott and the Nighthawks Outlaws
Outlaws - Single Kiss the Sun Records 2020
Advance track from their forthcoming debut album. The music of F.Scott has come by way of a long and winding road; a raucous journey of love, loss, redemption and foundation. The course was set and the future defined as The Nighthawks were assembled. F.Scott and his band of Merrymen are good ol’ boys through and through. So proud of Molly for her incredible release. Did you know she played at my wedding reception, even though she wasn't feeling well? We've been friends for a long time; I've been fortunate to watch her progression as an artist thru the years.. "Molly Maher has done it. She combines simplicity and heartfelt melody and creates something that is equally haunting and hypnotic. I can't stop listening. Bravo! Jerry Joseph and the Stiff Boys San Acacia
The Beautiful Madness Cosmo Sex School Records 2020
Backed by Drive By Truckers; produced by Patterson Hood; Jason Isbell is on the album, too. Jerry Joseph has a new album coming out this month, The Beautiful Madness, produced by Patterson Hood and backed by the entire Drive-By Truckers band. Stitched together by a common thread of raw honesty, the DBT adopted a style that dovetails seamlessly with Jerry Joseph’s songs. The project is very powerful and versatile. After the entire band supported Joseph on the album, including one song with Jason Isbell, they were going to tour together to co-promote The Beautiful Madness along with the Drive-By Truckers’ new album. Those plans have currently been rescheduled. Americana Highways was honored to talk to Jerry Joseph about all of this, for over an hour while Joseph walked in the park saying hello to dogs and ducking lawnmower noise. We went through nearly every song on the album - jerryjoseph.com

North Mississippi Allstars - Mean Old World (feat. Jason Isbell & Duane Betts)
North Mississippi Allstars Mean Old World (feat. Jason Isbell & Duane Betts)
Up and Rolling New West Records 2019
"An inventive, earthy improvisation unfolds with increasingly greater intensity for six and half minutes, featuring Jason Isbell and Duane Betts on a T-Bone Walker/Little Walter tune culled from the outtakes of Derek and the Dominos’ Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs (in that form an acoustic duet between Eric Clapton and Duane Allman). No doubt it might well have gone on much longer in the Zebra Ranch Studios where engineer Kevin Houston recorded the bulk of these sessions, but the studio expertise the Dickinson Brothers learned from their late father Jim (who worked with the disparate likes of the Rolling Stones and the Replacements) stands them in good stead as they co-produce with sufficient restraint to preserve the flow of these twelve tracks." Ryan McMahon Are You Alright
Are You Alright - Single Elbowroom Recordings Ltd 2020
"One benefit about being locked up is I'm riding a wave of new songwriting that I hope lasts for infinitum. In this instance, I wrote some early morning lyrics at my kitchen table, while family life just happened around me. I wanted to have the kind of artistic freedom & fun that only happens for me at the Song Shelter... I played multiple saxophone tracks, fuzzy organ tracks & I even had most of the family sing gang vocals towards the end. It was as much fun as I've ever had in my space, and I hope that you can hear that when listening to the end result." Ryan McMahon. https://ryanmcmahon.bandcamp.com/track/are-you-alright
