Bette Smith - I Felt It Too
Bette Smith I Felt It Too
The Good, The Bad and the Bette Ruf Records GmbH 2020
Produced by Drive-By Truckers' Matt Patton and engineer/drummer Bronson Tew. Wild rock & soul singer Bette Smith traces elements of her life-affirming new album The Good, The Bad & The Bette to her childhood in rough Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Musically, it connects to the gospel music she heard in church and the soul music on the corners. No party host would regret putting on this platter! The injection of soul music and gospel into rock & roll powered a breakout in 2017’s Jetlagger, which received raves from NPR, Paste, American Songwriter, Billboard, MOJO, and a feature in the New York Times. Not just a critics darling, the album rose to #1 on the Roots Music Report chart and topped off a banner year with a celebrated appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Patrick Sweany Band - Evening Sun

Get That Feeling, Vol. 1 - EP Nine Mile Records 2020
Patrick Sweany just hit his 20th anniversary as a professional musician last year. Of course, a lot has changed in two decades, so Sweany and his band began trying out new arrangements for some of the songs. While on tour with the Austin band Greyhounds, Sweany and the 'Hounds cooked up an idea to record these new arrangements at Greyhounds' new Austin studio Bud's Recording Services. Twice last year when Sweany toured through Austin, he spent a couple days at Bud's and laid down a dozen tracks - mostly rearranged older songs, but also a new tune ("One Thing") and a cover (you'll hear about that in vol. II). Andrew Trube and Anthony Farrell of Greyhounds produced those sessions and tried to get Sweany out of his comfort zone. "We threw a lot of curve balls at (the band)," says Trube. "We added a lot of keyboard, which Patrick doesn't record much with, and even tried out some weird vintage drum machine loops and other sound effects."

I did the artwork awhile back, and the title just popped into my head. I wrote “Time Is Wasting” awhile back for a movie. The song didn’t get used, but I ended up thinking about it again as COVID lockdown stretched away in front of us." - Josh Ritter

Same Shirt, Different Day Rodney Rice 2020
“In his excellent new album Same SHIrT Different Day the playful penmanship in the title is no accident; Rice’s sense of irony and his particular penchant for framing everyday situations with a cheery and charming attitude and down-home demeanor would certainly make Prine proud” (Lee Zimmerman) “It is real country music about real life – something in short supply on contemporary radio.” (David Masciotra) “Rodney Rice is one of those who clearly has listened to his share of Prine records as the influence can be heard all over his latest, Same Shirt, Different Day. This is a stellar album from someone who clearly take’s his inspiration from one of the greats, while managing to forge his own path.” (John B. Moore)

Blackie & The Rodeo Kings That's What I Like
Let's Frolic True North 2006
Blackie and the Rodeo Kings originally formed in 1996 when Colin Linden, Stephen Fearing and Tom Wilson came together to record what was suppose to be a one- off tribute album to the great Canadian songwriter Willie P. Bennett. At the time, all three members were deeply committed to burgeoning solo careers that they had no intentions of putting on hold, and had no plans to turn Blackie into an ongoing concern. Now twenty years later, 8 albums , one Juno award and several Juno nominations under their belts, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings have organically evolved into one of the finest roots-oriented bands in North America. Blackie and the Rodeo Kings remains one of Canada’s greatest musical treasures.

Blue Rhythm Highway Inside Recordings 2018
"Blue Rhythm Highway is my first record in many years. At the urging of my long-time friend Jackson Browne, I went into his studio to record “Blue City” and “On Mardi Gras Day”. Then consequently many other songs to complete this CD. I’ve always chosen to ride the blue rhythm highway, a road where the afro-Caribbean sounds of my youth blend with those rolling rhythms that rock the blues and feed on street-bred beats, shaking my soul like a steady moving train." Legend In My Time - Hank Wilson, Vol. III Leon Russell Records 1998
Revising his Hank Wilson persona, Leon Russell has emerged once again as a county artist on this album. As the third volume in a series that started in the 1970s, this is one of the most well-produced country albums ever. Legend in My Time rocks too, with such covers as the searing "Sixteen Tons" and "Okie From Muskogee." On the ballad side, a version of Willie Nelson's "Night Life" pretty much blows every other version away. Leon Russell is one of the most gifted and versatile musicians of the past 50 years, and here is another reason why. AMG

GA-20 - Cut You Loose
GA-20 Cut You Loose
Live Vol. 1 - EP Karma Chief Records 2020
GA-20 was formed by friends Pat Faherty and Matthew Stubbs in Boston, MA in 2018. The project was born out of their mutual love of heavy traditional Blues, R&B, and Rock & Roll of the late 50s and early 60s. Faherty and Stubbs bonded over legendary artists like Lazy Lester, J.B. Lenoir, Earl Hooker, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and Junior Wells. Feeling a void in current music, the duo have set out to write, record and perform a modern version of this beloved art form. Live, GA-20 is a trio of 2 guitars, vocals and drums. Raw, passionate and honest performance, both on stage and in the studio, is the only goal. Stubbs has spent the past 11 years as guitarist for Blues legend Charlie Musselwhite. During that time he has also backed up and toured with such Blues giants as John Hammond, James Cotton, Junior Watson and James Harman. Stubbs also leads his own original instrumental psych-rock band, 'The Antiguas'.

Louisiana's LeRoux announces the release of its seventh studio album, One of Those Days, available on July 24th, 2020 worldwide. Several videos featuring the new music will be released over the next month. Guitarist, Tony Haselden says, “It’s the best combination of LeRoux's musical palette and represents the abilities of the band better than any album we’ve probably ever done. It covers a wide spectrum of blues, southern rock, and zydeco.” One of Those Days was produced and engineered by Jeff Glixman at Esplanade Studios in New Orleans, LA. Jeff infused the band's latest effort with his signature punchy sound, and brilliant musical guidance that can be heard on Kansas, Gary Moore, The Georgia Satellites, and many other classic albums.

Anders Osborne - Louisiana Rain
Anders Osborne Louisiana Rain
Osborne Orchestra Rabadash Records 1992
“Becoming more popular” might have been a sensible way to describe guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Anders Osborne previously in his profession, but Osborne’s popularity has certainly pass on beyond the edges of New Orleans, a town where he first slice his teeth and developed a status for incendiary concert events. Osborne was created in Sweden in 1966. His dad was a specialist drummer along with a jazz lover whose early-’60s jazz combo performed clubs throughout European countries. At a age group, he became captivated by the vocalist/songwriters from the ’60s and ’70s, but traced those performers’ roots back again to even more fundamental blues. He traveled all over the world, making profits from displays, and resolved in New Orleans, which became his house bottom after 1990. Osborne artfully mixes blues, funk, spirit, and traditional R&B to generate his own unique synthesis of designs. musicianbio.org

Faith Jones For What It's Worth
2020
An exciting (and very timely) version of the Buffalo Springfield classic, "For What It's Worth," by 21-year-old singer Faith Jones, backed energetically by a North Carolina all-star band of Peter Holsapple, Gene Holder, and Chris Stamey (The dB's) and Brian Dennis and Kenny Soule (DAG). This unique, passionate, freshly-recorded rock-and-soul performance includes an interpolation of a quote from 60s BLM icon Angela Davis, "I'm no longer accepting what I cannot change, I'm changing what I cannot accept." Listeners will love Jones's electrifying take on this song, which was performed by Billy Porter and Stephen Stills at the opening night of the Democratic National Convention this year.

Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien OBE, professionally known as Dusty Springfield, was an English pop singer and record producer whose career extended from the late 1950s to the 1990s. Small Faces Itchycoo Park
The Small Faces Immediate 1967
Small Faces were an English rock band from London, founded in 1965. The group originally consisted of Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones, and Jimmy Winston, with Ian McLagan replacing Winston as the band's keyboardist in 1966.The band was one of the most acclaimed and influential mod groups of the 1960s, recording hit songs such as "Itchycoo Park", "Lazy Sunday", "All or Nothing", and "Tin Soldier", as well as their concept album Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake. They later evolved into one of the UK's most successful psychedelic bands until 1969. When Marriott left to form Humble Pie, Small Faces did not disband. The remaining three members collaborated with Ronnie Wood, Ronnie's older brother Art Wood, Rod Stewart and Kim Gardner, releasing four tracks under the name of Quiet Melon, after which Art Wood and Kim Gardner departed the situation and the remaining five members became Faces, except in North America. wiki
