Sea Island Lonely was written in the back of a car Patterson Hood taking to a super early flight after a show in Southern Georgia. It was one of my favorite takes from the Memphis sessions, a total accident that we completed with horns.

Drive-By Truckers The Perilous Night
The New OK ATO Records 2020
Finally, in putting it all together, in keeping with the timing of its creation and release, we decided to include The Perilous Night which I began writing on the day the Electoral College voted Trump into office and completed the week after the Charlottesville murder of Heather Heyer on the day that the sitting President said that there was blame on both sides. This is a radically different mix from the mix of the single we released in 2017. Here’s to the hope that we can make 2021 a better year than this one has been. In the meantime, here’s to The New OK! See you at The Rock Show. Patterson Hood The DBTs - September, 2020

Sandy Nelson - Teen Beat
Sandy Nelson Teen Beat
Sandy Nelson Plays Big Beat
Sandy Nelson was a prominent session drummer in the 50's and 60's and managed to put some instrumental hits of his own in the top ten. He attended high school with Jan Berry, Dean Torrence Phil Spector, and others who went on to careers in rock-and-roll. Sandy became a proficient drummer and joined his firs group, Kip Tyler and the Flips. Another member of the group was future Beach Boy Bruce Johnston, who played piano. Ki Tyler and the Flips recorded some songs on the Ebb and Challenge labels. He signed a recording contract with Imperial and in 1961 release his second [and last] top ten hit, Let There Be Drums. Once again he had scored with an instrumental that featured hi driving drum beat. He had other minor hits in 1962, such as Drums Are MyBeat. In 1963 Sandy was involved in a vehicular accident and lost part of his leg. He recovered and returned to performing the following year, and eventually released Teen Beat '65 before fading away. drummer world.com

Strung Like a Horse - Crazy Like Me
Strung Like a Horse Crazy Like Me
Whoa! Transoceanic Records 2020
Strung Like a Horse is known for their signature brand of Americana, distilled from old-school storytelling, roots-rock and bluegrass instrumentations, and alt-rock edge. Mississippi-bred, Chattanooga-based frontman Clayton Maselle brings the influences of John Hartford, Split Lip Rayfield, Danny Barnes, the Band, Violent Femmes, and Old Crow Medicine Show to his singular songs. The band’s authenticity, unpredictability, boundless energy, and great fondness for a good time have made their live shows a cult favorite. This summer, the band recorded their first studio album, Whoa!, with multiple Grammy-winning producer/engineer Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, John Prine, Brandi Carlile, Calexico/Iron & Wine, Margo Price, Al Green, Josh Ritter), to be released on Transoceanic Records in early 2020. the signaltn.com

Written and recoded by The Bee Gees.. You don't know what it's like, baby You don't know what it's like To love somebody To love somebody The way I love you In my brain I see your face again I know my frame of mind You ain't got to be so blind And I'm blind, so, so, so blind I'm a man Can't you see what I am? The War on Drugs shared a searing live rendition of “Pain,” from their upcoming album, Live Drugs, out November 20th via frontman Adam Granduciel’s own Super High Quality Records. Rather than capturing a sole concert, Live Drugs features cuts pulled from over 40 hard drives of recorded War on Drugs shows from across the years. Per a press release, it’s sequenced to reflect a typical War on Drugs set, while also capturing the way the band has evolved over the years. Along with selections from the War on Drugs’ four studio albums, Live Drugs will feature a cover of Warren Zevon’s “Accidentally Like a Martyr.”

Quarantine Blues - Single 2020
Throughout over three decades in music, Steve Poltz did it all and more—often shared by way of his rockin’ countrified folk slices of sardonic Americana (hatched in Halifax). Of course, he co-wrote Jewel’s multiplatinum Hot 100-topping megahit “You Were Meant For Me,” but he also went on a whale watch with her and a few federales that turned into a drug bust. The two still share the story at every festival they play together. He made his bones as the frontman for underground legends The Rugburns, who burned rubber crisscrossing the continent on marathon tours and still pop up once in a while for the rare and quickly sold out reunion gig. more at poltz.com

Kurt Vile Speed of the Sound of Loneliness
Speed, Sound, Lonely KV - EP Matador 2020
For those that have followed Kurt Vile for any length of time, it’s well known that Vile was no Johnny-come-lately to the John Prine bandwagon. They shared the stage several times before the devastating loss of Prine earlier this year. And this Prine inspired tribute EP has roots going back to 2016. Most of the songs here were recorded that year at The Butcher Shoppe studio that was founded by Prine and David “Ferg” Ferguson. Prine was not on hand for the initial sessions that included a cover of his “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness,” but does appear here for the latest recorded track, “How Lucky”. undertheradarmag.com
