Joss Stone - Walk With Me
Joss Stone Walk With Me
Walk With Me WMG S-Curve 2020
“The song started out as a romantic song asking someone to walk through life with you, kind of like a wedding song if you will,” says Stone. “When we got to working on it so much had happened that I couldn’t take my mind off. With the pandemic and what happened with George Floyd that unfortunately sparked so much violence it got me thinking that the problem is mostly with the us and them attitude. That is the biggest killer - separation and judgement. Everyone needs to come together in order to survive this life in peace. Without togetherness nothing is OK. So, I rewrote the song and I hope people take it in the way it was intended,” Stone continues.” “The only way things will get better is if we throw the divides and lines away and love each other regardless of colour or job or health. The fix is not to make those lines thicker. Let’s walk together. Through it all.”

Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real Start to Go
Promise of the Real Concord 2010
Lukas Nelson knows all about legacies, indeed he’s been hard at work carving his own for most of his young but extremely eventful life. Balancing his work as the front man of Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real — an emergent and vital force in American music — with his regular gig as Neil Young’s band leader and lead guitarist — and of course, the never-ending road alongside his father in Willie Nelson & Family — in song after song, on stage after stage, Lukas has sharpened the edges of his singular sound, one that nods to his influences while also pushing forward into uncharted territory. lukasnelson.com

You Can't Judge a Book by Looking at the Cover - Single https://www.bigdamnband.com 2020
This new single from The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band pays tribute to a couple of Rev's influences. "You Can’t Judge A Book By Looking At The Cover” is a rollicking version of the song that was made popular by Bo Diddley but was written by one of the greatest American songwriter's Willie Dixon. The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band are the greatest front-porch blues band in the world. The band is led by Reverend Peyton, who most consider to be the premier finger picker playing today. He has earned a reputation as both a singularly compelling performer and a persuasive evangelist for the rootsy, country blues styles that captured his imagination early in life and inspired him and his band to make pilgrimages to Clarksdale, Mississippi to study under such blues masters as T-Model Ford, Robert Belfour and David “Honeyboy” Edwards.

The Byrds - Bad Night At the Whiskey
The Byrds Bad Night At the Whiskey
Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde Columbia 1969
Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde was the perfect title for the album as the Byrds would produce music that spanned their career. Their country roots would lead to a number of tracks but Roger McGuinn would also reach back into the group’s past for some good old psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll. It may not have been cohesive but it sure was interesting. As the last remaining original member there was little doubt that by this time Roger McGuinn was in charge. He wrote or co-wrote six of the ten songs and arranged a seventh. He also sang lead on all the tracks contained on the original release." David Bowling; blogcritics.org

Bramblett’s follow-up to 2017’s highly regarded Juke Joint At The Edge Of The World. Bramblett who has worked with Steve Winwood, Widespread Panic, Gregg Allman, Bonnie Raitt and many others over the course of his career notes that Pine Needle Fire is “about time passing, or at least grappling with the realization that you don’t have an infinite amount of time left like you think you do when you’re young. So there’s the mortality part of it. And then another part has to do with our current situation in this country. I grew up protesting in the ‘60s and ‘70s, so I’ve always felt connected to politics. Now I’m really hung up on it. And you look around and there’s a lot of people that are kind of desperate for change and for justice…or maybe they’re just desperate. They’re trying to hang on in this world. I’m one of them. Most of us are, to some degree.” Relix Magzine

The Rolling Stones Yesterday's Papers
Between the Buttons ABKCO Music & Records, Inc. 1967
"The Rolling Stones' 1967 recordings are a matter of some controversy; many critics felt that they were compromising their raw, rootsy power with trendy emulations of the Beatles, Kinks, Dylan, and psychedelic music. Approach this album with an open mind, though, and you'll find it to be one of their strongest, most eclectic LPs, with many fine songs that remain unknown to all but Stones devotees. " allmusic, com

The Rolling Stones - Complicated
The Rolling Stones Complicated
Between the Buttons ABKCO Music & Records, Inc. 1967
""Complicated" is one of the songs on Between the Buttons that clearly illustrates the schizophrenic nature of the album. Sounding like a Yardbirds outtake, it has a slightly Eastern feel that is framed by a fuzzed-out electric guitar. The main melody has a slightly clumsy feel to it, sounding like it was written in some haste, which, given the Rolling Stones' 1966 schedule, is probably true. An almost interesting character study of the band's favorite subject (confused women), there is a certain period charm here." amg

The Rolling Stones - Something Happened to Me Yesterday
The Rolling Stones Something Happened to Me Yesterday
Between the Buttons ABKCO Music & Records, Inc. 1967
One the most accurate songs about LSD, "Something Happened to Me Yesterday" closed out the Rolling Stones' Between the Buttons album with a combination of social commentary, personal insight, and a strong sense of comedy, something that the band had been exploring. The lyrics do not recount the LSD experience necessarily but focus on what happens after the trip and how it relates to the subjects dealings with society. Although this sounds rather heavy, it is dealt with with a sense of whimsy, which is wholly refreshing, especially considering the time in which it was written. Mirroring this is the music, which is a combination of trad jazz and folk-country -- almost like Leadbelly or Woody Guthrie writing about acid." allmusic.com

Time Is Tight / Soul Limbo Stax 1968
Soul Limbo is the seventh studio album by the American R&B band Booker T. & the M.G.'s, released in 1968 on Stax Records. The album was the first Stax LP issued after the label severed its ties with former distributor Atlantic Records in 1968. The title track is perhaps best known in the UK as the theme tune for BBC Television's cricket coverage and later for Test Match Special. It features a marimba solo by Terry Manning. The song was later covered by the English punk band Snuff. The album also features the group's hit version of the title theme from the film Hang 'Em High
