This is very interesting. I think I can hear a lot of influences: Vangelis, Moroder, even Tangerine Dream...
Bucky 8:06:53 PM
...not to mention, a classical base
A KFAI DJ 8:06:58 PM
Or is it just a genre?
A KFAI DJ 8:07:16 PM
I hear the same but it could just be that they make music in the same neighborhood...
A KFAI DJ 8:07:40 PM
Bucky 8:07:42 PM
*shrugs* I'm just saying I kinda dig it.
A KFAI DJ 8:07:59 PM
Totally agree with you!
Bucky 8:08:39 PM
I don't mean to detract but this could work as a film score piece
A KFAI DJ 8:09:13 PM
No detraction. Agree again. I wonder if the movie Outland could've benefitted from it...
A KFAI DJ 8:10:51 PM
Glad to see you here, by the way! Always a pleasure!
Bucky 8:16:53 PM
Thanks. I was in California last Friday attending a wedding. And the weeks before that...was either lurking or doing other stuff.
A KFAI DJ 8:17:08 PM
LOL! Cool! Where in CA?
Bucky 8:18:30 PM
SF. The couple booked family into the Fairmont Hotel on Knob Hill. $$$$$ but fabulous service and amenities.
A KFAI DJ 8:18:56 PM
AWESOME!!! Had you been there before? Any time to see any sights?
Bucky 8:20:00 PM
Not a lot of time. I've been SF a couple times before. This time I got to ride cable cars for the first time. Saw the place on the wharf where sea lions like to hang out.
A KFAI DJ 8:20:46 PM
Neat! If you haven't ever, I recommend taking a short road trip to Colma. It's the 'cemetery city' outside of SF. Amazing!
Bucky 8:21:22 PM
Don't think I've heard of it before. Will have to investigate

Yes, after the great earthquake and fire in SF, cemeteries weren't allowed in the city limits any longer except at The Presidio. So, all religions' cemeteries are now located in Colma. Very cool to walk around and see the monuments.
Bucky 8:30:48 PM
Interesting... I have been chasing a great-grand uncle who emigrated from Sweden, staying Minnesota briefly, then reportedly went to California "was never heard from again." I recently might have found a voter registration roll from SF with his name on it, dated just before the big earthquake. It's got me wondering if he perished in the cataclysm. Those cemeteries could be a clue...

A KFAI DJ 8:31:49 PM
Yes, SF authorities had a lot of trouble with the earthquake aftermath because a lot of the residents in the cemeteries...um...popped up.

Have you seen the recent documentary on Netflix about pioneers of Black film from the 1960s and '70s called "Is That Black Enough For You?". Good stuff.
Bucky 8:45:37 PM
It, of course, covers the Blacksploitation era of films in some detail.
A KFAI DJ 8:46:51 PM
I heard about it but haven't seen it yet. Thanks!

Lol. I'm looking at some old Swedish parish records right now. I'm always amused by some of the names I find. This page has one "Jonas Goliath".
A KFAI DJ 8:54:19 PM
Right up there with "Big John."
Bucky 9:00:13 PM
The reason I'm looking at this particular book is I'm trying to find evidence of one of my ancestors having lived there. His name is Carl Kock... Don't tell Boll Weevil or he'll faint.

I'm going to sign off now. Have to go pick up BuckDaughter™ from her summer job working for Mpls Parks.

See ya! Thanks for listening and chatting!
Bucky 9:06:04 PM
A pleasure, as always. Cheers!
