Over the Edge presents

12:00 AM (Midnight) PST: Fridays

Over The Edge‘s themed mixes are made live and spontaneously on the air from a variety of formats and equipment. There is a plan and there is no plan. The mix consists of found sound of many kinds and from many sources, old and new, put together on the run as the continuous audio collage continues. OTE sometimes employs “Receptacle Programming,” which means you. Unscreened phone callers are punched into our ongoing mix with no warning to contribute to the live mix. When your phone stops ringing, you’re on the air. Don’t say “Hello” – Just begin. Call 510-848-4425 to deposit your programming.

Born in New Hampshire, 1944, Don Joyce Attended Rhode Island School of Design (BFA) and California College of Arts & Crafts (MFA). His background is in painting, but now likes sound better. Joyce first got into radio at U.C.’s station, KALX in Berkeley, then moved to KPFA with a show called Over The Edge, which has run on KPFA for over 35 years. His goal as a free-form broadcaster is to combine music, information, and sound to create an emotional experience on your radio. He stays off mic most of the time to allow that experience to develop without interruptions. His taste in music ranges from classic R&R to classical avant garde and his taste in information ranges from the silly to the serious to the profound. RIP Don Joyce. The new crew continues OTE.
