I grew up in northern Vermont where there was no radio, My dad made a homemade dish to bring in CBC out of Montreal to get news and classical and folk music which was all I knew at the time. We then moved to West Africa where there was rock and roll on the taxi radios. Mostly the beatles. There was also a huge amount of african music as well as music from all over the world as radio was very new there. This opened up a whole new world for me. We also had a very warped record of the unicorn and the flip side was the black velvet band, and that exposed me to celtic music. Upon returning to Vermont I was able to pick up WWVA in Wheeling WV at night and got to hear the grand old opry and that exposed me to Bluegrass and old timey music. This and other thing made me realize that Vermont was too small of a place to be. Came to Colorado in 1973, mostly to ski and finish up school. I then owned a dairy farm for 15 years and listened to various overnight radio and thru KYOU and KDHT out of Greeley heard so much new and great county music. By 1991 Rick and Andrea Bradstreet asked me help out with rocky mountain breakdown at KCSU, and then I was a DJ. When CSU announced that they were going to end community participation KCSU and make it an entirely student station I became involved with PRFR which is the non profit that became KRFC. I worked with this group for the many years to get KRFC up and running, serving as treasurer and also board president. I have been doing a show since we went on the air and am still loving it.
