In this episode, we'll pay homage to the elusive, yet influential rapper, MF DOOM, who passed away in late October of 2020. The news of his passing was made known to the public on the very last day of 2020, making the event of his passing feel very fresh in the hearts of fans, including myself. The first song I ever heard by the Villain, as he is commonly referred to as, was Rapp Snitch Knishes from the album MM...FOOD. I was attracted to the super sick guitar riff of the song (sampled from Space Oddity by Dave Matthews) which was unlike any other hip hop song I had ever heard of at the time. But the lyrics... omg. I felt like I was getting life lessons for a lifestyle that I wasn't living, but yet somehow it felt like it pertained to me. The song immediately reminded me of Bobby Schmurda (iykyk)
If there's one thing about MF DOOM's music is that it's as lyrically affluent as it is producer-heavy. Undisputedly talented, his legacy will live forever. The Man, the Main Superstar, MF DOOM
