With Taylor

A morbid menagerie of past and future metal classics melded into a chaotic cacophony of sinister sounds for bleeding ears. Death is no escape here; in fact, it's where we begin our journey. This ride stops at Maiden, Mayhem, Melvins, Meshuggah, and all points in between. So climb aboard and put your horns, and the volume, way up.

Christine 10:08:13 PM
Happy Friday! L’enfant sauvage is in bed, and I’m ready to rock.
Taylor (host) 10:09:07 PM
Ha! Love that nickname.
Frankie 10:12:17 PM
Good Evening, Taylor.
Taylor (host) 10:12:40 PM
Good evening, Frankie. How are you, sir?
Frankie 10:14:34 PM
Okay. I Guess And Yes, It's True. It's A Horrible Night To Have A Curse.
Taylor (host) 10:14:56 PM
Ha. That it is, indeed.
Frankie 10:16:16 PM
Do You Think Robot Taylor Should Be Doing This Show While The Corona Virus Is Happening?
Taylor (host) 10:17:52 PM
Absolutely not. We're taking strict precautions at the station, and essential functions need to continue whenever possible.
Jackie Oh 10:18:03 PM
Anyone see the "CoronaVirus?? Saw them back in 82 opening up for Anthrax" meme yet? It's great haha
Taylor (host) 10:18:27 PM
That one hasn't crossed my path yet, Jackie.
Jackie Oh 10:20:33 PM
It's like an image of a thrasher and it says that haha. If only you can send images over this. Just some silly humor to shed some light over all this.
Frankie 10:20:58 PM
What Is Strict Precautions? What Is Essential Functions?
Taylor (host) 10:22:13 PM
Media operations have been designated in California as essential functions. So those of us who work in the media are still expected to report for duty if we're healthy.
Frankie 10:24:48 PM
Oh Okay. I Didn't Know That.
Taylor (host) 10:25:09 PM
Don't worry, I'm keeping safe, my friend.
Christine 10:26:35 PM
Jackie, I saw a meme like that for ISIS. that was funny.
Taylor (host) 10:27:15 PM
I've seen the Corona VIrus shirts where the name is rendered in a brutal death metal logo.
Frankie 10:29:01 PM
Okay. Oh, By The Way, I've Been Listening To KXLU From Los Angeles, CA On The TuneIn App And They Got Pre-Recorded Shows On. No DJ's Are On The Air Right Now.
Jackie Oh 10:29:23 PM
Christine, they really don't waste no time on these memes lol. I find them great :P
Jackie Oh 10:29:37 PM
I want one, Taylor!
Christine 10:30:30 PM
Ha. I think.
Taylor (host) 10:31:53 PM
Each station is taking its own precautions, Frankie. Our staff is small enough to manage all of the safety regulations we have in place, and most of of our programming is pre-recorded because all of the students are gone.
Frankie 10:33:30 PM
Oh, I See. I Didn't Know That One Either.
Taylor (host) 10:33:52 PM
That's also Los Angeles, a very crowded area. I literally haven't been within eyesight of another human being besides my family today.
Frankie 10:35:13 PM
Oh, I See.
Frankie 10:35:45 PM
Hello, Christine. Hello, Jackie Oh
Christine 10:35:58 PM
I’m glad the KSPC djs can choose to be on the air if they want. It’s obvious that you guys live what you do.
Christine 10:36:08 PM
Hi, Frankie
Christine 10:36:24 PM
*love.
Taylor (host) 10:36:25 PM
We definitely do. And people need music right now.
Jackie Oh 10:39:16 PM
Salutations, Frankie
Christine 10:43:14 PM
I hope these guys release more music! Was this from 2018 (β€˜18)?
Taylor (host) 10:44:06 PM
Indeed. That's all they had on their Bandcamp page so far, but I'm ready to hear more too.
Dave 10:54:40 PM
Good evening Taylor and all the faithful listeners tonight. It's comforting to know that despite the fact that life as we know it has basically come to a halt, not everyone has been broken by these uncertain times. The show must go on, and the show WILL GO ON! It is the perfect attitude of why metal fans are the best in the world and why they will never be broken by anything, not even a worldwide pandemic! Thank you SO MUCH for coming in tonight and doing a live show and hosting...
Taylor (host) 10:55:19 PM
Dave, thank you so much for that message. There's nowhere else I'd rather be tonight, sir.
Dave 10:56:17 PM
...a live chatroom for us to feel some sense of normalcy when we may not feel otherwise.
Taylor (host) 10:56:41 PM
That's part of why we've been cleared to continue.
Taylor (host) 10:56:59 PM
And that sense of normalcy is exactly why I'm here.
Dave 10:57:31 PM
And there's no other place I'd rather be than right here enjoying the brutal tunes! \m/
Taylor (host) 10:57:46 PM
Very glad to have you with us, Dave.
Christine 11:03:21 PM
Normal.? Hi Dave!
Christine 11:04:07 PM
I like the sense of abnormalcy here. But I agree.
Dave 11:04:44 PM
To me, this show is one of the "essentials", as important as food, water, and yes, the new precious commodity for 2020, toilet paper!!
Taylor (host) 11:05:05 PM
Tonight's show is abnormal... just like normal.
Taylor (host) 11:05:18 PM
Thank you, Dave. It is for me, too.
Taylor (host) 11:05:45 PM
But if you ever have to choose between me and food, please go ahead and eat. I'll feel bad otherwise.
Christine 11:08:04 PM
He can always listen while he eats.
Frankie 11:08:52 PM
Oh I Haven't Heard That Song By Cannibal Corpse In A Very Long Time. I Remember Seeing The Music Video For Decency Defied A Long Time Ago & There Was A Different Lead Vocalist During The Wretched Spawn-Era.
Taylor (host) 11:09:00 PM
I know. But I mean if it REALLY came down to one or the other. I'd choose this show over food, but Dave doesn't have to. That's really what I was getting at.
Taylor (host) 11:09:19 PM
I haven't seen that video in forever, but I definitely remember it.
Dave 11:11:24 PM
Hi Christine! I remember you telling me about that mural you painted for a new restaurant out in Redlands. I can't help but think with a heavy heart about what they're going through...opening a restaurant right when all such businesses are either reducing hours or going out of business altogether. I hope they survive, and I would like to try them out sometime.
Taylor (host) 11:12:34 PM
It's definitely heart-breaking what all of this is doing to small businesses everywhere.
Christine 11:14:14 PM
Taylor, that was my lame dry sense of humor.
Taylor (host) 11:14:46 PM
A lot of record stores and book stores were barely hanging on as it is. I'm sure a lot of them won't be able to reopen when this is over, and that's a huge cultural loss right there.
Taylor (host) 11:14:54 PM
Ha. I know, Christine.
Christine 11:15:38 PM
Dave, yeah, I hope Hate Burger does well. I know they’re doing take-out, but small businesses are sure having it rough.
Taylor (host) 11:16:24 PM
I've been trying to support some of the small music sellers I frequent online, and I bought a record from one of my favorite bands to send some cash their way today, but I don't have a ton to spare unfortunately.
Christine 11:16:58 PM
Fortunately communities are trying to come together to support their local businesses. I just hope they will make it.
Dave 11:17:37 PM
I would just as soon starve than not listen to my weekly doses of music with your show and the Boss Guy's shows (as well as other various shows on KSPC). They're the very thing that helps me keep my sanity, through a global pandemic or not!
Taylor (host) 11:18:21 PM
This is one of those moments when the people who have all the money need to spread it around. If I was a millionaire, I'd be ordering take-out from local restaurants like crazy and donating the food to food banks or sharing with people in the community.
Christine 11:19:32 PM
That’s the best attitude to have. I want to
Christine 11:20:28 PM
Oops. I want to support a bunch of places and artists, but it wouldn’t be responsible of me to just spend a bunch of money right now.
Taylor (host) 11:20:28 PM
I truly hope all of us that are able to be on the air right now are able to stay on through this entire crisis. Things have been changing so much week by week, I just have to enjoy one show at a time and hope we can keep going next week.
Taylor (host) 11:21:17 PM
Definitely not. Obviously life essentials are more important.
Dave 11:25:23 PM
My wife and I said we would rather starve than let our cat starve. We stocked up on PLENTY of wet and dry food for her, so she's good to go for a long time now. I thought the pet stores would be facing a crisis with empty shelves, but oddly enough, they seem to be rather full like normal. I sure as hell hope people aren't neglecting their furry family members for toilet paper!
Taylor (host) 11:25:48 PM
My mom was trying to get hand sanitizer for two weeks and everywhere was sold out. So she finally found some online, but she had to order by the dozen. So 12 bottles arrive... she keeps a few for the house, then she went to the older next door neighbors on each side and gave them each a couple of bottles. Then the lady next door mentions how the store she goes to was sold out of eggs... so my mom runs back home, doles out half of the eggs she had and takes the rest to the lady next door.
Taylor (host) 11:25:54 PM
That's how I was raised.
Taylor (host) 11:27:27 PM
I was wondering if pet stores are staying open. Cat food and dog food you can get eveywhere. But what if you have a bird, or a hamster or something exotic?
Taylor (host) 11:28:18 PM
I just have a fish. Luckily, he doesn't eat a lot and I have plenty of pellets left in his canister.
Dave 11:29:52 PM
As far as I know, PetSmart has plenty of food and supplies for birds and hamsters, reptiles, fish, etc. Like good music, animals bring great joy to my life!
Taylor (host) 11:30:15 PM
So they're staying open? That's great.
Taylor (host) 11:30:26 PM
Animals need to survive through this too.
Dave 11:34:41 PM
I went shopping at a bunch of stores yesterday. I had run out of eggs at home, so I went to one store, and they didn't have any (I heard eggs were a real problem trying to buy). But then I went to the next store, and they had a huge amount of eggs in stock! I found the same situation to be the same with bottled water. It really depends on being in the right place at the right time.
Taylor (host) 11:35:14 PM
That's true.
Christine 11:35:56 PM
But how is the Bunny Bunch holding up? Sorry, not sorry.
Taylor (host) 11:40:40 PM
I guarantee someone that loves those bunnies is checking in on their fuzzy welfare.
Dave 11:41:06 PM
My wife and I even traded with our neighbor next door some bottled water for some paper towels. Trading is still a win-win situation for both parties!
Taylor (host) 11:41:40 PM
See, that's awesome. That's exactly how people should be conducting themselves through all of this. Hoarding is stupid and selfish.
Christine 11:45:28 PM
That is awesome, Dave. I traded a pair of Doc Martens and chocolate truffles for tp and fish. And I’m being serious.
Dave 11:46:34 PM
I've been finding a few paper products in very small quantities online, but I want to secure some larger amounts. I would then like to divide it up and give some to my parents and some to my in-laws, as both sets of parents are having a really tough time finding these products that up until a week or two ago were so common to find anywhere.
Taylor (host) 11:49:32 PM
I greatly prefer stories like this than the ones about college students saying "eff this... Spring Break!"
Christine 11:50:55 PM
Ha. This show is going by too quickly!
Dave 11:51:14 PM
My Mom is 78 and my Dad is 85 and has severe dementia. They're knowledge of the internet is limited, and they don't really know how to purchase online, and they DEFINITELY need to adhere to "social distancing" at their age.
Taylor (host) 11:52:25 PM
I think we're all in that boat with our parents, Dave. I'm definitely far more concerned about them than I am about myself.
Dave 11:57:02 PM
Yeah, all of our parents have done SOOOOOO much for us in raising us (well, there are a few out there who haven't, but that's another story and topic). It's the least I can do to go over and visit them, give them much needed necessities, etc.
Taylor (host) 11:58:35 PM
I hear you, sir. I'm still spending time with my folks. That's definitely an essential.
Christine 12:03:14 AM
Oh hell ye. To this song and to taking care of our parents.
Dave 12:03:19 AM
HA!! OLD SCHOOL!!! The mighty Quensryche! I haven't heard this in ages!
Taylor (host) 12:03:49 AM
I was just listening to this record last week, and I figured I was long overdue to play something off of it.
Dave 12:06:35 AM
I remember, I think it was off their first EP, the song "Queen of the Reich"...does anybody remember that classic??
Christine 12:07:11 AM
This song rules. I don’t know if I’ve heard Unleashed before.
Taylor (host) 12:08:06 AM
Unleashed rules. Their first two records are flawless.
Frankie 12:08:12 AM
Okay. I'm Back. I've Been Quiet For An Hour.
Taylor (host) 12:08:28 AM
Of course, Dave. Mindcrime was the record that got me into them, but I went back to the beginning after that.
Taylor (host) 12:08:38 AM
Welcome back, Frankie.
Christine 12:08:52 AM
Time for Frankie to get loud.
Taylor (host) 12:09:48 AM
This is another flawless record right here.
Frankie 12:11:10 AM
Taylor, Did You Bring In Mercyful Fate's Melissa Again?
Taylor (host) 12:11:51 AM
I don't have that one with me tonight, sir.
Dave 12:12:12 AM
I remember hearing that song, along with "Dead End" by Great White (when they were a serious metal band; pre-fame) on The Mighty Metal Hour on KMET 94.7 way back in the day! Good times!
Taylor (host) 12:13:06 AM
Ha. Great White! I never got into them. They were a little too pretty.
Taylor (host) 12:13:19 AM
Oh, wait. I was thinking of White Lion.
Taylor (host) 12:13:33 AM
Great White was "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" right?
Frankie 12:14:32 AM
Oh, Bummer And I Was Hoping That I Would Hear Into Thy Coven (Again).
Dave 12:14:45 AM
No, I'm talking about Great White's first EP, a totally killer record, back when they had balls...but yeah, the same Great White that became too pretty.
Taylor (host) 12:14:47 AM
I can try to get that in next week.
Taylor (host) 12:14:59 AM
I haven't heard the really early stuff.
Taylor (host) 12:15:10 AM
Maybe I will investigate.
Frankie 12:15:28 AM
Okay. Next Week. Good Luck, Taylor.
Taylor (host) 12:15:29 AM
I went looking for that first Warlord EP after playing "Mrs. Victoria", but it's crazy out of print.
Taylor (host) 12:17:41 AM
I listened to a couple songs, though, and they were really solid. More rock than metal, but good rock for sure.
Dave 12:17:58 AM
Also, the really early Twisted Sister (pre-Stay Hungry era, 1984) is great, too! Back in the day when they wore denim, and not all that ripped spandex and garish clown makeup.
Taylor (host) 12:17:58 AM
Thanks, Frankie. You too.
Taylor (host) 12:18:31 AM
I still liked Twisted Sister when they got a bit more poppy. Those songs were fun. Not so much when he tried doing Nu-Metal later on, though.
Taylor (host) 12:18:52 AM
Although the Strangeland soundtrack has a few excellent tracks on it.
Dave 12:22:21 AM
Yeah, the videos for their two biggest hits were frickin' hilarious!! I remember showing them to my parents back when the videos were new, and even they (who were both very socially conservative, not liking metal or hard rock) got the joke!
Taylor (host) 12:22:51 AM
It's hard to believe anyone was offended by that back in the day, but they definitely were.
Taylor (host) 12:23:05 AM
If they only knew what was coming a few years later...
Christine 12:24:40 AM
No kidding.
Christine 12:25:01 AM
White Lion... didn’t they cover something like Radar Love?
Taylor (host) 12:25:13 AM
I think you're right on that one.
Dave 12:26:07 AM
Ha, I don't think any of us knew that (black metal, death metal, etc.) was coming!
Taylor (host) 12:26:43 AM
I'm very glad it did.
Christine 12:27:02 AM
I bet Ice T knew.
Taylor (host) 12:27:37 AM
Ice T knows all.
Taylor (host) 12:30:08 AM
That's because he's the O.G.
Dave 12:31:07 AM
Those two Twisted Sister videos perfectly captured the stereotypes of parents vs. children, authority vs. delinquency, order vs. chaos, etc. That's what made them so great! And the songs weren't bad, either!
Christine 12:31:52 AM
Ima straight G, Butthead.
Taylor (host) 12:32:06 AM
Ha. Settle down, Beavis.
Anthony 12:32:19 AM
Ahaha!
Christine 12:32:20 AM
I love those videos too.
Taylor (host) 12:32:23 AM
Agreed on the Sister, Dave.
Taylor (host) 12:32:36 AM
Howdy, Anthony.
Dave 12:32:45 AM
Uh, huh-huh-huh, uh huh-huh-huh!
Anthony 12:32:50 AM
hey, dude.
Taylor (host) 12:32:56 AM
How are you, sir?
Anthony 12:33:32 AM
Staying alive, and staying home, ha. How are you??
Taylor (host) 12:34:15 AM
Ha. About the same. I enjoy the staying alive part. The staying home isn't as fun when it's mandatory.
Christine 12:34:32 AM
In the speaking part, Phil sounded like Peter Steele’s non-Transylvanian cousin.
Taylor (host) 12:35:12 AM
Pantera were huge Type O fans. But I think when they played together, Pantera's fans didn't greet them kindly.
Dave 12:35:16 AM
What would Beavis say nowadays during this Coronavirus crisis? He would say: "I AM CORNHOLIO!!! I must have TP for my bung-hole!!!"
Anthony 12:35:39 AM
I'm not the most social creature, so I don't mind it. Are you working from home, like everyone else?
Taylor (host) 12:35:53 AM
There are a ton of Cornholio memes out of this. I've seen at least 10 on my Facebook feed just today.
Taylor (host) 12:36:16 AM
I'm a writer, so I've been working from home for a long time.
Dave 12:36:21 AM
Oh, I can only IMAGINE!!!
Anthony 12:36:25 AM
Nice!
Taylor (host) 12:36:36 AM
I mostly miss going to the movies and concerts.
Christine 12:36:45 AM
I think Beavis started the pandemonium. Dumb Pantera fans.
Anthony 12:37:54 AM
I'm at home with the new Tool album. Pretty good!
Taylor (host) 12:40:22 AM
Music will be the key to sanity for many of us, my friend. I'm right there with you.
Taylor (host) 12:41:00 AM
Yeah, I watched a yoked 300 pound dude punch an 80-pound girl in the face at a Pantera show. Some of their fans were a bit scary.
Dave 12:41:10 AM
My wife and I almost bought tickets for a couple of Dodger games this year, and we had a good chance to go to the All-Star Game 2020 (held at Dodger Stadium), but with opening day pushed back and the season itself being uncertain, we held off buying the tickets rather than going through the hassle of trying to get our money refunded.
Taylor (host) 12:42:18 AM
Probably smart. I've had three concerts postponed and one event canceled and refunded so far. Plus two coming up in May that are seeming increasingly unlikely.
Christine 12:43:52 AM
I miss going out and probably have a cancelled concert, but I’m honestly content painting my living room and listening to Touch of Evil.
Taylor (host) 12:44:23 AM
Making the best of it is all you can do.
Taylor (host) 12:44:33 AM
I'm happy to provide a small part of that.
Dave 12:44:37 AM
My in-laws cancelled an Alaskan cruise due to the outbreak. But then again, I've always thought most of those cruises were floating Petri dishes for so many diseases.
Anthony 12:45:06 AM
I wish DJ anonymous would do some shows...
Taylor (host) 12:45:10 AM
I've never been on one.
Taylor (host) 12:45:16 AM
Never plan to.
Taylor (host) 12:45:55 AM
There's a possibility of that, Anthony. They're still trying to figure out how to manage the schedule, but if they ask him to step in I'm sure he'll be doing some.
Christine 12:46:33 AM
Yeah, a cruise ship has never appealed to me either. Yuck.
Anthony 12:46:59 AM
That's good to hear, love that guy... whoever he is.
Taylor (host) 12:47:11 AM
I'm sure he appreciates that, Anthony.
Dave 12:47:39 AM
Some of the greatest joys in life are listening to music, binge-watching a favorite show, etc., all things that you can do while at home away from the virus.
Taylor (host) 12:47:45 AM
There's nothing on a cruise ship you can't do in Vegas. I'd rather not be stuck in the middle of an ocean doing those things.
Taylor (host) 12:48:55 AM
Agreed, Dave. Having some time to play video games definitely doesn't suck, either.
Dave 12:49:35 AM
My Aunt has been on many, many cruises in recent years. Luckily, she has never gotten sick, and she is still alive at 98!
Anthony 12:50:05 AM
Down time is always appreciated.
Taylor (host) 12:50:25 AM
I know some people love them. Just not my thing. I'm not big on the ocean.
Taylor (host) 12:50:50 AM
Someone said today, "a lot of great art is going to come out of all of this." Definitely something to look forward to.
Anthony 12:51:04 AM
I've read too many H.P. Lovecraft stories to like the ocean.
Taylor (host) 12:51:18 AM
Ha! I just saw Jaws too many times.
Dave 12:53:38 AM
I think the fact of being confined to a vessel on the open water is a bit unnerving. If you want to get away from something on land, you can just go somewhere else, but in the ocean, you're trapped and have nowhere to go.
Taylor (host) 12:54:08 AM
Exactly. I can do short boat rides, but not being able to see land at all is an unnerving concept for me.
Dave 12:55:39 AM
I really wonder how those early explorers did it...like Magellan, Drake, Columbus, Cook, Da Gama, etc.
Taylor (host) 12:56:02 AM
Especially since they thought at some point they could just fall off the edge of the earth.
Dave 12:58:45 AM
Thanks for the always excellent Touch of Evil show, and especially for helping to keep our spirits up during these trying times with a live show and chatroom. Take care, be safe and healthy, and I shall hear you again next week if you are here. Thank you again for all you do, and good night!
Frankie 12:58:58 AM
Take Care & Good Night, Taylor.
Anthony 1:00:09 AM
night all. πŸ˜—
Dave 1:00:10 AM
Good night and take care Christine, Frankie, and everyone listening! Be kind and good human beings to one another! : )
Taylor (host) 1:00:52 AM
My pleasure, Dave. Thank you all for listening, and thank you for chatting. We'll talk soon. Until then... goodnight!
