Hangin' in there. I just got back from the store, buying stuff to make a pre-Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving meal (stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, rolls, apple pie, egg nog, etc.).

Good stuff! You doing Thanksgiving early this year?

The wife and I usually do a pre-Thanksgiving meal with the aforementioned foods (the stuffing and mashed potatoes being instant). No turkey, as I am a vegetarian, and she a "pseudo vegetarian". Then we'll go to her parents' house on Thanksgiving Day for the regular meal. We'll have enough leftovers between our stuff and their stuff to carry us into the first week of December.

Right on, man. That's a cool way to do it.

You can never go wrong with left-over mashed potatoes and stuffing.

Yeah, stuffing and mashed potatoes/gravy are such a perfect autumn combination of food!

Those are my favorite part of Thanksgiving. I eat turkey, but I'm not a huge fan.

All that tryptophan in the turkey makes you very tired, which explains why everyone sleeps right after a large meal on Thanksgiving. I always wondered why that was when I was a kid.

I need to stay awake. I'm DJing an evening of Thanksgiving programming that evening for my family.

I changed it over a few hours ago, so it should switch over to the pic I chose for tonight.

Lots of sick "bloody" carnage going on tonight! I love it!

I'm glad, man! Yeah, this is always a pretty fun episode to put together.

I'll bet you had tons of fun choosing which songs to play and in what general order for this show.

I ended up with like 6 hours worth of tunes!

The hard part was whittling that stack down. I'm trying to mainly play tracks I didn't play last year, with a few obvious exceptions.

Plus I went through the entire shelf of records I hadn't listened to yet, and pulled every single one that had a song title with "blood" on it. Then I spent all week listening to those. So there are a bunch of discs I'm playing for the first time tonight (even if I've played the band in the past).

It's always good to have way more than you actually need, so you'll then have those leftovers for next year's show, or for any of the regular shows during the year.

I mean, it's pretty easy to find titles with "blood" in them in the metal world.

You should make a list = call it your "Blood List". Make an alphabetical artist list of songs with "blood" in the titles. When Red Friday nears each year, you can simply refer to the list and pull each disc as you need. And if you forget a title you know you have, you'll have it in the list!

Actually, Edie was killing it with the '80s stuff from 9-10. When I came in she was playing New Order and she closed her show with Devo.

I actually just did a song title search on Discogs, Dave. I can search my collection for the word "blood" and it will give me every record that word appears on.

Their live shows are insane. They have huge strobes triggered to the kick drum, so the lights end up pummeling you just like the music.

I saw them open for Gojira at the Glass House a million years ago. I'm so happy I already knew who they were and got there early to see them. I'm not sure they've played anywhere near here since.

There's also a TV cut of the movie which is about 10 minutes longer, and one of the extended scenes is their full performance. It even shows him crowd-surfing in that version.

I love the rhythm changes in this song!!

These first couple Unleashed records are flawless. So perfectly heavy but catchy.

The slow rhythm parts for some reason remind me of the Melvins.

Fun fact: during the final Nirvana recording session, Dave Grohl recorded an Unleashed cover tune on which he played all the instruments. It may have actually been the first "true" Foo Fighters recording. But it's never been released.

I'm pretty sure it was "Onward Into Countless Battles."

Obscure, but true.

Was it a formal studio session, or was it a home recording from the sessions that yielded "Do Re Mi"?

Or maybe from the studio sessions that yielded "You Know You're Right".

It was the same session at which they recorded what turned out to be the final officially-released Nirvana track, "You Know You're Right". "Do Re Mi" was much earlier; there are demos of that going back to 86-878.

86-87, obviously.

I know Kurt and Pat Smear recorded home demos of "Do Re Mi" as late as early '94.

There are few sketches of songs that were on the first Nirvana demo from 86 that they would revisit throughout the years.

And a couple of cool ones that never got redone properly, but had tons of potential.

If you ever have a chance to check it out, one of my favorite Nirvana songs is called "Opinion". He only played it once, acoustically, live on a radio show the night he wrote it. And then evidently never went back to it again. But it's a stellar track.

I really wish "Do Re Mi" had been fuly realized as a completed song. I read somewhere that Paul McCartney really liked it a lot, and said that if The Beatles early beautiful songs had a '90s equivalent, it would have been "Do Re Mi".

I really wish Nirvana had made twenty more records. Unfortunately...
