Robb Bell 3:02:36 PM
Say hey Wal!
Wal (host) 3:02:45 PM
Hi RB! Welcome!
Robb Bell 3:03:27 PM
How's doing today Wal?
Wal (host) 3:03:45 PM
Things are rolling right along over here. How's the BBQ today?
Robb Bell 3:05:08 PM
Smoker's fired up and getting to up to temp. Chicken thighs and wings, and beef sausage going in soon!
Wal (host) 3:05:49 PM
Are you throwing a party?
Robb Bell 3:06:51 PM
No. Just for the fam. We'll get several meals out of this cook.
Wal (host) 3:07:39 PM
Sure sounds like it! Well, the weather is a bit milder than it has been, so I'm sure spending a little time outside ain't too bad.
Robb Bell 3:08:53 PM
True dat. Unfortunately, I've got to work this afternoon, but my son is doing the cooking today.
Wal (host) 3:09:07 PM
Ah, that's nice of him!
Robb Bell 3:12:09 PM
Yes and he's good at it. But since I'm working, I'll only be listening. So I'll be off the chat. Thanks in advance for spinning the jazz. Cheers!
JF 3:12:10 PM
If nothing else, this show proves the claim that Jazz is dead to be "bass-less"... (reaching!)
Wal (host) 3:12:30 PM
All good, thanks RB! Have a nice day at work.
Wal (host) 3:12:44 PM
Hahaha! JF, always ready to come in with a pun.
Robb Bell 3:13:27 PM
Fortunately, I'm working from home!
JF 3:13:36 PM
Have a good time at work Robb, see ya!
Wal (host) 3:14:34 PM
Well, that's not too bad, then!
Wal (host) 3:15:24 PM
And for the record, JF, there are very few tracks that I've been able to play that don't have bass in them. Usually it's the organ-led stuff where the organist is playing bass with the left hand or the pedals.
Vice Admiral Robert Z 3:16:07 PM
howdy do and doody how people!
Wal (host) 3:16:17 PM
Hey VARZ!
Vice Admiral Robert Z 3:16:28 PM
how is every little thing?
JF 3:16:37 PM
The bass is the base Wal, we all know that
Wal (host) 3:16:43 PM
We've got Mingus spinnin' just for you since JF is on a "bass vacation" of sorts
Vice Admiral Robert Z 3:17:11 PM
sounds like he might be fishing for some...*snicker...hey Jefff
Wal (host) 3:17:22 PM
Hahaha
JF 3:17:36 PM
<0!
Vice Admiral Robert Z 3:17:41 PM
you know what's ironic?..I haven't been aboard a ship in ages <0
Vice Admiral Robert Z 3:17:54 PM
I should be drummed out of the service
JF 3:22:00 PM
Poinciana was a nice opening to the show!
Wal (host) 3:26:30 PM
Sounds like VARZ is not in "ship shape"
Wal (host) 3:26:53 PM
Yeah, that Shelly Manne track has some really good "spirit" to it!
Vice Admiral Robert Z 3:28:47 PM
myah could be...
Wal (host) 3:29:44 PM
What was the last ship you were on?
JF 3:30:51 PM
I quess with the sinking of the Roma, VARZ is amongst the Octo'pie!!!
Wal (host) 3:32:47 PM
Might be fun to go diving and see all the octopi down there. Though, I'm not known to be a great swimmer.
JF 3:42:53 PM
Four on Six is a nice bass line!
Wal (host) 3:43:47 PM
Totally classic Wes Montgomery cut there
Vice Admiral Robert Z 3:47:25 PM
probably a catamaran to Catalina and back
Vice Admiral Robert Z 3:47:35 PM
it's been a few years
Wal (host) 3:47:52 PM
Well, that sounds like fun! I haven't been to Catalina in over a decade.
Vice Admiral Robert Z 3:49:09 PM
if you do go back, the nicest part of it is the much less populated town of Two Harbors...opposite Avalon but you can get there by boat in a few hours...it's where the other end of the island is pinched into a strip of land you can walk back and forth in--a small harbor at each side
Vice Admiral Robert Z 3:49:28 PM
about a 20m walk apart
Vice Admiral Robert Z 3:50:16 PM
then if you never took the tram up to the Airport in the Sky near the highest elevation on the island, I highly recommend that too
Wal (host) 3:55:37 PM
Never been to both Two Harbors or the tram. All I did was rent a golf cart and cruise around Avalon. It was a nice time, but yeah, there's more to the island than the tourist spots.
Vice Admiral Robert Z 3:55:49 PM
sure enough
Vice Admiral Robert Z 3:56:11 PM
since a youth, I've been there maybe 10 times....mostly day trips but one 3 night weekend
Wal (host) 3:57:00 PM
I think I've been a few times. I actually played a jazz gig in Avalon (with my middle school jazz band)
Vice Admiral Robert Z 4:11:34 PM
neat
Vice Admiral Robert Z 4:12:22 PM
I even considered living there once but after a while I might get rock island fever....even in Hawaii people talk about the how isolated you feel sometimes on an island
Wal (host) 4:13:07 PM
Yeah. I could see how that could be the case. At least with Catalina, you're just a boat ride away from the mainland. Hawaii is really way out there!
Wal (host) 4:13:30 PM
What city are you in now?
Vice Admiral Robert Z 4:21:29 PM
still in Glendora
Vice Admiral Robert Z 4:21:34 PM
for the time being
Vice Admiral Robert Z 4:21:47 PM
...wait there's a real Nairobi Trio?
Vice Admiral Robert Z 4:21:57 PM
that used to be a bit on the old Ernie Kovacs show
Wal (host) 4:22:40 PM
Yes! I think that's where they took their name from.
Vice Admiral Robert Z 4:22:50 PM
ah....yes makes sense
Wal (host) 4:22:50 PM
I lived in Glendora for a decade.
Vice Admiral Robert Z 4:23:50 PM
ofc, Kovacs goes way way back....if you know the name...he was in "Bell Book and Candle" with Kim Novak too...later than his old black and white show...and there's a biopic of him w/Jeff Goldblum
Wal (host) 4:24:12 PM
Ah, I know of the biopic, but not much else!
Wal (host) 4:25:37 PM
To make matters more confusing, this jazz Nairobi Trio are a quintet. Yeah!
Vice Admiral Robert Z 4:25:40 PM
watched a best of w/my pops many years ago...definitely more his era....funny stuff to this day if you can find it
Vice Admiral Robert Z 4:25:58 PM
his old black and white shows were way out there for the 50s
Wal (host) 4:27:52 PM
Ah, I'll have to see if I can find some of it
Vice Admiral Robert Z 4:35:20 PM
arright Wal pleasure as always thanks for the jazz spins I'm heading out to din din...cya Saturday
Wal (host) 4:38:07 PM
Thanks RB! Take care!
Wal (host) 4:38:20 PM
RZ, not RB! Ooops! Saw RB earlier today!
Vice Admiral Robert Z 4:39:54 PM

Wal (host) 4:46:30 PM

Wal (host) 4:47:00 PM
Thanks RB! Take care and glad to be the soundtrack for your work!
JF 4:54:23 PM

Wal (host) 4:54:37 PM
