How are things out in MD today?

It's 75 degrees, down from 85. But with 93% humidity, it feels like it's 85. We had a little rain today, and rain a few days ago.

Ah, it's actually a bit on the muggy side around here, too. Not the level of your area, but you can feel it. We're 95 right now.

The storms that brought rain earlier in the week had intense downbursts a few miles from our house that knocked out power for several days, and damaged many houses

Hmm, I just heard some thunder

Wow, that is harsh!

Is your place okay?

We're ok, thanks for asking. The damage was like 5-6 miles east and maybe 10 miles to the north. The power outages were to the east.

Wild stuff. Is that somewhat expected in the summer?

RJF, what's happening out in SA today?

Yes, damage like that somewhere in the area is expected with strong and Severe thunderstorms. For that storm it wasn't really bad here. Last July, we lost power for five hours because a downburst about four blocks away knocked branches onto roofs and wires. Other folks lost power for 2 days

Ah, I see. We had a really bad windstorm in January that cut power to much of the city for a long time. I think I was without electricity for a couple days...?

We're going to be leaving KSPC in a few minutes for half an hour or more because a band I really like, Horsegirl, is having a live in-studio performance at KEXP in Seattle. We'll be back when it's over.

I remember that windstorm both in the news and in the chat here. Two days without power sucks. I've/we've been through 2 day outages a dozen times or more over the years.

Horsegirl are fairly new, from Chicago, have a CD out on Matador, are part of a teen music scene called Hallo Gallo after an album by the 70s band Neu!

KEXP has a lot of vids on YT, I've seen/heard a lot of great music there

They and other bands in the scene love 90s indie music.

Interesting. I remember some of the Guided By Voices albums were released on Matador.

There's a new-ish band I was listening to earlier today called Momma that has a definite 1990s vibe to it

In a few days or weeks the Horsegirl performance should make it to KEXP's YouTube channel. I've discovered or gotten into several bands because of the live in-studios

I'll check out Momma ... I think I may have heard them on WPRB or KSPC recently

There are a few more ornithological references in jazz -- I'll have to find them all and compile them into a set for you sometime!

The Momma album I was listening to has a red station wagon driving by on the cover. It just came out a few weeks ago. I was enjoying it!
