I guess I was also in that mindset, bringing this classick out right at the beginning.

Although a couple cuts from now, I'll be dropping some choice brand new music. So we're still doing a balance.

I love all the Nile stuff, but this record just straight up slays.

I went to an 80’s themed party and wore jeans and a polo. Maybe a party pooper but that’s what I wore in the 80’s. We all didn’t dress in neon or like Madonna.

Nah. The only thing that took a lot of time was making sure I drew my mole in the right place.

I'm actually a big Madonna fan, at least the early stuff. She had a stellar run on her first four records.

Even her non-album soundtrack cuts from that era were gold. "Crazy For You" and "Live To Tell" are both phenomenal songs.

There are artist like her, where I love the music but don’t really care about the whole catalog. Greatest hits are enough for me.

Some of her deep cuts are kind of fluffy, but especially her first album, every track is a keeper.

Effing awesome. I was blown away. I liked the last one a lot, also, but this one is next-level rad.

To be honest, I always supported them because I love Max so much, but I was never a huge fan. I am now.

I saw them on their first tour, though. And a couple times after that. They were always fun live.

I bought tickets this morning for Cavalera. That's Max and Igor playing old Sepultura songs. I never got to see them back in the day, so I'm really excited about that.

Beneath The Remains and Arise were defining records for me, so hearing tunes off of those is going to be such a treat.

I got to interview Max on his tour bus during the second Soulfly album days. He was so laid back and cool.

Really? That’s so cool!

I used to write for a few magazines and websites, so I went to a lot of shows from that era to review them.

Most of the interviews I had to do were people whose bands I didn't give a crap about, but Max was an exception.

How is that? I imagine some people like talking and others don’t. That can’t be easy.

But in a few cases, the people I talked to ended up being really cool and it made me appreciate the band a little more. For instance, I will never hate on Papa Roach because their guitarist was really cool when I interviewed him.

A lot of them were up and coming bands, so I think they didn't mind doing interviews as much because it was new to them and they were still excited.

Those older articles are like baby pictures to me. I thought I was good but I was terrible. I'm a little less terrible now.

The coolest interview I ever got to do was John Doe. He couldn't have been cooler, and since he's a hero of mine that was huge.

Brandon from Incubus was a really nice guy, too. He stayed on the phone with me for like two hours, which is basically unheard of when bands do interviews. Usually you get 10-15 minutes.

Thanks, man! That's just a project I do for fun. Some of it gets really personal, though. It's kind of become a memoir over the years.

Do you have a review for Primus' Pork Soda ? I love that album.

That was before my era. I was mostly doing reviews between 98 and 2005 or so.

John Doe, X? There’s no way there’s another. Why ask? Los Angeles is a great record!

I was assigned a Primus show to review one time. I had to tie my shoe so I had my best friend hold my camera for me. The security came up and asked him where his photo pass was. I showed them my pass and explained that he was just holding my camera.

They told me he wasn't allowed to have a camera without a photo pass and dragged him out of the venue. This all happened right when the lights went out and Primus was about to go on. I tried talking to the dudes, but they were on some power trip and said he was out for good. So I left the show and didn't review it.

Primus’s loss.

Pretty ridiculous when you think about it now, when every single person at every single concert has a camera in their pocket.

Security can totally ruin an experience, man that sucks!

I almost came to blows with them, actually. They literally grabbed the back of my friend's neck and dragged him out of there.

Ha. Yeah, my love for Disney has certainly waned in recent years. I used to be an annual pass holder, but I haven't been to the park in 5 or years now and can't imagine ever going back again at this point.

I had passes back when they were about $400 for premium. I heard they are over a grand now. It was fun though. Just head out and have dinner and get on a few rides.

That's one of the big reasons right there. The days of it being affordable are long over.

And they were so unabashed about it!

Their statement when they were re-opening after Covid was essentially, since we lost a whole lot of money last year, we need to maximize the amount of money spent by every guest going forward, so we're raising the prices on everything. Welcome back!

People keep paying. But go to Knott’s or Magic Mountain and understand how the high prices make a difference.

I used to love both, but I haven't been to either in more years than I can count.

Universal always was and always will be my favorite.

Man, I wish! They changed it to Waterworld, which stayed there for way too long, like 15 years. I'm not sure what's there now. It might be part of Harry Potter World.

But the changes are one of the coolest things about Universal to me. They're constantly filming there, so new film history is constantly being made and the things you see there reflect that.

I've been going my whole life, so I can still remember the old reference points they made on the tour, no matter what they say now.

Back to the Future was filmed there, right?

Last time I was there, that European village was "where they shot Pirates Of The Caribbean" but I said, nah, that's where Donna and Brenda went to Paris on 90210.

Chunks of it, Papa. The courthouse with the clock tower is still there, but a lot of it had to be rebuilt after a fire on the backlot.

Is the Munsters house in Universal Studios?

1313 Mockingbird Lane is indeed still there. It's on the same street where the Desperate Housewives "lived".

Among countless other things.

The Back To The Future courthouse was also used in Liar Liar, episodes of Matlock, etc.

Ha! The ‘Burbs. Never gets mentioned in the illustrious career of Mr. Hanks. Along with the Money Pit or Volunteers.

In case you can't tell, I'm somewhat of a Universal historian. It's always been a dream of mine to be able to walk around the backlot and check things out without being on the tourbus.

I watch Elvira Mistress of the Dark twice a month, the downtown area looks a lot like the BTTF Courthouse area

Elvira was also filmed there!

I can even spot the backlot when they use it in commercials.

Fletch Lives , at least the Bible themed fun park scene right?

Definitely. The cabin from The Great Outdoors is still there in a prominent place on the tour, also.

I was there when they filmed Fletch Lives. They were using the auditorium they had the Conan the Barbarian show. Last time I was ever ther.

They most likely filmed portions of the movie there if they needed soundstages, but often when they need certain types of buildings they'll film on location. For instance, there's nothing there resembling a college campus, so they most certainly filmed big chunks of Animal House elsewhere.

A trip down memory lane and a sick playlist! I was wrong. The fires of hell were what I needed.

I still watch a lot of old sitcoms, actually. Taxi has held up amazingly well.

He and his family ate at the restaurant where I used to work. I wasn't his server, but I helped out. Didn't get to interact with him much, but his wife was very sweet.

Apologies for being late

My most notorious moment was when a friend let me and my death metal band into the studio to do a pirate live broadcast at midnight one night. Evidently a bunch of people saw that. I got recognized at a Del Taco drive-thru by the dude at the window.

Since you were in the biz, can I ask a question? I went to a restaurant. They had the portable card reader. For whatever reason, most likely my fault, but the tip didn’t get added. Now I feel bad. I tip well but obviously she didn’t get her tip for great service. What do I do? I feel like I can never go back.

I used to watch public access on Time Warner cable in Santa Ana, is there a YouTube link because I am intrigued

Papa, you can totally go back and give the server a tip after the fact. We all remember getting stiffed and I'm sure she'd appreciate it.

That’s my fear. She isn’t there but the rest of the staff has heard the situation. Am I safe to eat or should I watch for spit in my food and drink. Seriously, I feel bad.

An important thing to keep in mind is that servers have to tip out other people on the staff, and it's usually not based on what they make, it's based on their sales. At my last restaurant, I had to tip out the bar staff, the hosts, and the backservers. If I had a $100 tab and got stiffed, that meant like 5 bucks coming out of my pocket since there wasn't a tip.

I can honestly say I never once saw food get spit in, messed with, etc. my entire 10 years in the industry. That's an exagerration.

If that was nearly as widespread as people make it out to be, servers would never eat anywhere because they would know their odds are high for that sort of nonsense.

It's one of the hardest jobs in the world, truly. Especially to do it well. And half the things that go wrong aren't the server's fault, but they have to be the one to bear the wrath of it.

Hopefully she is still there. You never know the way turn over is nowadays. Because that would haunt me.

I've never stiffed a server in my life. If I get terrible service I'll still leave 15%. They probably think their crappy service wasn't noticed, but what they don't know is that I usually tip 30-50%.

50%? Okay, I’ll just stay home.

Ha. Keep in mind, I usually go to breakfast and I'm usually alone. With my meal and coffee it's $20 at the most. I always leave $5 at least. $10 if it's a server I know.

I've also been known to spot people who are eating alone like I am and pick up their tab before I leave to leave them with an act of kindness for the day.

I like imagining the server dropping off a tab for $0 and their day being brightened just a bit.

I found myself in the pit at Lamb of God on a video someone posted, the other two on a trucking YouTube channel. One was from just last weekend.

I get really pissed off when strangers film me with their phone. As nice as I usually am, I totally snapped on some dude a couple months ago because he just posted up while I was helping a customer and started snapping photos of me.

Randomly or did he know of the show?

In 1988 I auditioned as panel but was picked ad contestant instead, and saw Wally George the controversial TV host at the studio, but I didn't get to meet him until 1998 at a random play center called Super Kids Fun Factory

He had no idea who I was. He said he was taking photos to practice for a class he was taking. I told him the first lesson in that class should have been asking permission before taking someone's photo, then I made him show me his screen while he deleted the shots.

Wally at a play center for kids?

There aren't any pictures of me anywhere in relation to the show. I enjoy the anonymity of radio. But I have had listeners ask to take a photo with me when I've met them at shows or whatever, and I will do that. It's flattering they'd want a picture with me, so I'd never be a jerk and say no to that.

My wife did that to a kid at Knott’s. Standing in line, she says that kid looks like one of our daughters friend and snaps a picture. Kid freaks out. I made her talk to the kid and had to explain why she was wrong

Ha. See? Imagine how creeped out a woman would be if some stranger just snapped their photo without asking. I don't think it should be any different for anyone else.

I'm sure your wife doesn't look like a creep. But if I was a parent and some stranger took a picture of my kid, they'd be forcefed their camera.

Kid was cool but she still didn’t understand how it was wrong. Perhaps explaining it in reverse order would have helped. Me taking a candid shot of a young girl, my ass would have been tackled and beaten.

Fortunately she has one of those personalities where people like her. Me not so much.

Wasn't it Native Americans who believed that a photograph steals a piece of your soul? I don't quite think that, but it's certainly an invasion of a most basic privacy.

I was introduced to GWAR by a girl named Laura who I had a huge crush on in junior high. She went to see them and was telling me about the show, and I was immediately, I need to investigate this band immediately. Scumdogs was the new record at the time, so once I heard that I was a fan for life.
