Touch of Evil

Sep 2, 2022 10:00 PM – 1:30 AM

Specialty

With Taylor

A morbid menagerie of past and future metal classics melded into a chaotic cacophony of sinister sounds for bleeding ears. Death is no escape here; in fact, it's where we begin our journey. This ride stops at Maiden, Mayhem, Melvins, Meshuggah, and all points in between. So climb aboard and put your horns, and the volume, way up.

Papa Rich 10:01:49 PM
Good evening all!
Taylor (host) 10:02:09 PM
Howdy, Papa! How was Sin City?
Papa Rich 10:03:00 PM
It was great but cane back with a sinus infection. Not used to the cigarette smoke. That’s kinda why I gave up smoking.
Frank Demian 10:03:05 PM
Hey Empire of Evil, Let's Party!
Taylor (host) 10:03:17 PM
Hey, Frank! Love the photo!
Taylor (host) 10:03:30 PM
Ha. Ironically, that's one of my favorite things about Vegas, Papa.
Frank Demian 10:03:43 PM
Thanks, I was thiiis close to meeting her once
Taylor (host) 10:04:00 PM
Out here I'm greeted with hostility whenever I light up, but out there I can just chill at the bar with a beer and enjoy myself.
Papa Rich 10:04:12 PM
Yeah, I can’t even take a puff now without getting one. Kind of a bummer.
Taylor (host) 10:04:42 PM
I have an acquaintance who worked with her on several occasions, and he said she was an absolutely lovely woman--kind, unpretentious, and a delight to work with.
Taylor (host) 10:05:04 PM
I mean, smoking is terrible for you, so maybe that's a good thing, Papa.
Papa Rich 10:05:44 PM
Yeah but it looks so cool.
Frank Demian 10:06:08 PM
Your acquaintance friend is very lucky, I only got to see her from a hundred feet at a crowded Millers Outpost parking lot
Taylor (host) 10:06:54 PM
Ha. I was a lifer from the very first puff I took. Most people say they get sick, but I was smitten immediately.
Taylor (host) 10:07:21 PM
And I've met a whole lot of cool people over the years specifically because we were outside smoking and got into a conversation.
Taylor (host) 10:07:40 PM
That doesn't happen as much these days, though. Mostly, it's people trying to bum off me now.
Papa Rich 10:09:19 PM
Plus you can’t look cool with a vape pen. There’s no way you inhaled. That was too much “mist” and you barely took the puff.
Taylor (host) 10:10:15 PM
Ha. Yeah, I'll hold back on my rant so as to not offend any listeners who might be vapers...
Mike Anderson 10:11:41 PM
HELLo!!
Taylor (host) 10:11:47 PM
I'll just say I don't understand why me smoking 50 yards away from any other human being gets me glared out, but people are evidently fine sucking in a huge cloud of cotton candy being blown right in their faces.
Taylor (host) 10:11:57 PM
HELLo, Mike!
Taylor (host) 10:13:15 PM
By the way, I should probably warn you all that tonight's playlist is completely insane.
Papa Rich 10:14:24 PM
So far, so good. Hopefully Dave is alright. It’s been a few weeks.
Mike Anderson 10:14:33 PM
Bring it brother!!
Taylor (host) 10:14:34 PM
I know, I was just thinking that.
Taylor (host) 10:14:44 PM
I hope Skai's journey was a success as well.
Taylor (host) 10:15:16 PM
Next song is gonna rock your socks, Papa.
Papa Rich 10:15:23 PM
Did SKAi say how long he would be gone. I don’t recall if he mentioned it.
Taylor (host) 10:15:30 PM
One you may have missed from the alphabet days.
Frank Demian 10:15:59 PM
Is it a vowel or a consonant?
Taylor (host) 10:16:15 PM
I don't think he specified, but he did say since he's in the DACA program crossing the border can be challenging depending on the circumstances.
Mike Anderson 10:16:32 PM
Missed the show last week. It's been an interesting few weeks for me but all positive!
Taylor (host) 10:17:05 PM
You got your commercial trucking license, right?!
Frank Demian 10:18:15 PM
You missed it Mr Anderson, KSPC was giving out a cornucopia of prizes for guys named Mike
Mike Anderson 10:18:21 PM
Yes Sir!!
Taylor (host) 10:18:33 PM
Ha. Mike got his own prize, Frank.
Taylor (host) 10:18:40 PM
Congrats, man! That's awesome!
Papa Rich 10:18:41 PM
You’re right about this track. I don’t recall the name but definitely awesome.
Taylor (host) 10:19:29 PM
This disc is in one of those large DVD-sized digipacks, so I had it on a shelf with a few other random things that are oversized. When I stumbled across it I realized it had been a long time since I played these guys, so it was on.
Mike Anderson 10:19:40 PM
Thank you!! Been a journey but focus and determination made it reality
Taylor (host) 10:20:00 PM
That's great, man. I'm always happy to hear positive things are happening for everyone in our group.
Papa Rich 10:20:03 PM
Congratulations Mike! And howdy.
Papa Rich 10:20:15 PM
Howdy to you to Frank.
Frank Demian 10:21:03 PM
Ghoul Evening Pulverizing Papa !
Mike Anderson 10:21:52 PM
I might be catching the show from the road pretty soon. Not sure if I can be in the chat then but I'll definitely try. At least to say HELLo and check in. Even if I have pull over to do it!!
Frank Demian 10:22:04 PM
Ghoul Evening Mike, keep on truckin !
Mike Anderson 10:22:11 PM
Thank you Papa!!
Taylor (host) 10:22:21 PM
I'm really excited to hear Max and Igor play old Sepultura tracks later this month, but now I totally want to see Soulfly again because this record freaking rules.
Mike Anderson 10:22:49 PM
10-4 Frank!!
Taylor (host) 10:22:51 PM
It's all good, Mike. I'll be honored to be keeping you company on the highways and byways of your travels, good buddy.
Mike Anderson 10:24:00 PM
Can't think of better company to have on the road than you and the show!!
Taylor (host) 10:24:37 PM
I'm always happy to find out we have listeners in other states... if you do enough driving, maybe you'll end up listening from all 50.
Frank Demian 10:24:48 PM
Beastbound and Down , Good Buddy
Taylor (host) 10:25:31 PM
I hope you listen to some Red Sovine while you're at it, Mike. No proper trucker should hit the road without some Red on deck.
Mike Anderson 10:26:00 PM
I think I'll be from LA to Phoenix or to the Bay Area, for now. I want to be home everyday for my kids
Taylor (host) 10:26:20 PM
That's awesome, man. I hope you love it.
Mike Anderson 10:27:19 PM
I pretty sure I will. It's been a major goal.
Taylor (host) 10:27:37 PM
Cheers to you, man. You deserve it.
Frank Demian 10:29:16 PM
🍻
Frank Demian 10:29:34 PM
Its Root Beer
Mike Anderson 10:30:21 PM
Thank you Sir!! Much appreciated!!
Mike Anderson 10:31:09 PM
Listening to Heavy Metal and driving Heavy Metal
Taylor (host) 10:31:28 PM
Ha. Perfect.
Papa Rich 10:32:11 PM
Just watch the gas pedal with some of these songs.
Taylor (host) 10:32:27 PM
Totally. This one right here would get me speeding.
Papa Rich 10:32:36 PM
Definitely
Taylor (host) 10:33:11 PM
I think I'll be bringing a bunch of classic discs with me when I roll to Vegas in a couple of weeks. I play individual tracks every week, but sometimes being able to listen to a whole favorite record in sequence is a treat.
Mike Anderson 10:34:06 PM
Lol!! Seriously!!
Taylor (host) 10:34:38 PM
Maybe even this disc right here. This is a fun one.
Papa Rich 10:35:03 PM
Check traffic on the way back. It took me 6 hours to get from state line to Baker. They closed two lanes through the mountain pass.
Mike Anderson 10:35:12 PM
55 MPH not 150 BPM
Taylor (host) 10:35:52 PM
Ha. It's not like I have a choice. There's really only one way to get back.
Papa Rich 10:36:09 PM
I’m flying next time.
Taylor (host) 10:36:37 PM
I'm meeting a friend down there and she's flying out. I just enjoy an extended head-clearing drive.
Papa Rich 10:38:20 PM
Hopefully they aren’t doing the same thing then but just a heads up.
Frank Demian 10:41:24 PM
Holy Crap, my brain just gave birth!
Taylor (host) 10:41:40 PM
Ha. This record is pretty damn awesome.
Papa Rich 10:42:38 PM
That may have been the best comment on a new track ever! It is killer!
Taylor (host) 10:43:13 PM
Sometimes I kick myself when it takes me a couple months to play something this rad that I've been sitting on. I'm like, I've had THIS the whole time?!
Taylor (host) 10:44:19 PM
And then it drops out into this moody break and the song just gets ten times cooler.
Papa Rich 10:45:33 PM
At least you have an excuse. You have a lot of albums. I don’t have a fraction of your collection and I forget about album’s I own.
Taylor (host) 10:45:56 PM
I'm just a junkie and music is my fix. I can't stop myself.
Frank Demian 10:47:12 PM
Well, now you got me hooked, scratching my ears bloody until I get another fix
Taylor (host) 10:47:29 PM
Job well done, then.
Papa Rich 10:47:51 PM
Ha. I guess that makes me an enabler for sending stuff your way.
Mike Anderson 10:48:38 PM
Music is therapy, it's a bookmark in your life, it's a mood changer. One song can make a lifetime of memories
Taylor (host) 10:48:49 PM
Preach it, brother.
Taylor (host) 10:49:02 PM
All of my memories are tied up in music one way or another.
Taylor (host) 10:49:24 PM
Ready for this one...
Taylor (host) 10:49:36 PM
Another splendid recent find.
Papa Rich 10:55:20 PM
This is splendid.
Frank Demian 10:57:30 PM
Taylor, kinda off topic but have you heard of a man named Larry Strothe, he has an enormous collection of Creature From the Black Lagoon memorabilia
Papa Rich 10:57:58 PM
First hour went fast!
Taylor (host) 10:57:59 PM
I have not, but I'm sure I'd be jealous.
Taylor (host) 10:58:25 PM
I have some pretty choice pieces myself. Creatch is my all-time favorite monster. Although that film is actually a love story.
Frank Demian 10:59:23 PM
I found out on Sunday about him appearing on a channel called MeTV, and then I forgot to watch
Taylor (host) 10:59:56 PM
I'm sure he has all the stuff I do and more, but I like my little collection. I'm pretty much out of space in my apartment anyway.
Frank Demian 11:01:19 PM
On the MeTV website there is a sampling of his stuff, including an old Remco action figure
Taylor (host) 11:02:21 PM
That's awesome. I don't have anything that old, but that Remco is a classic piece.
Taylor (host) 11:04:28 PM
The sad thing is that there's almost nothing left from the movie itself. In those days, movies weren't viewed as art the same way they are now, so props and such were just re-used in multiple movies until they got too old, then they were tossed out.
Frank Demian 11:04:45 PM
Do you remember getting Monster themed candy in your trick or treat bag, really chalky stuff, I know Frankenstein's monster was on the little box, maybe the Mummy and The Creature on other boxes
Taylor (host) 11:04:56 PM
I totally remember that.
Taylor (host) 11:05:15 PM
They were like Smarties inside, but they were shaped like monsters.
Frank Demian 11:06:04 PM
Ah, Good Times
Taylor (host) 11:06:35 PM
The closest thing I own to a movie "prop" is a bottle of sand and water from the lake in New Jersey that was used as Crystal Lake in the first Friday The 13th movie.
Taylor (host) 11:07:49 PM
But if had money and space, I would totally be a hardcore collector. I get giddy when I see screen-used props.
Taylor (host) 11:08:13 PM
I've been in the same room with Jack Nicholson's axe from The Shining. That was rad.
Frank Demian 11:10:20 PM
Is it on display at The Overlook Hotel?
Taylor (host) 11:10:49 PM
It's been shipped various places. I saw it in Seattle at a horror and sci-fi exhibit at EXP.
Taylor (host) 11:11:02 PM
EMP, I mean.
Taylor (host) 11:11:58 PM
And there are two "Overlook" hotels. The exteriors were filmed at one hotel, but all of the interiors were filmed at a completely different hotel.
Taylor (host) 11:13:26 PM
If you want to be technical, there's actually three. There's another hotel that Stephen King stayed at, where some bizarre haunting activity inspired him to write the novel. He based the hotel in his book on that spot.
Taylor (host) 11:13:59 PM
Sorry, I'm a nerd.
Frank Demian 11:14:00 PM
Thanks Toto for pulling the curtain aside, my reality is shattered
Taylor (host) 11:15:13 PM
Ha. That's common practice in films. Most houses and public locations aren't set up to place multiple cameras and all the lighting equipment required to film a scene. So usually when you see people go into a location in a film, the exterior is one place and the interiors are filmed on a sound stage.
Papa Rich 11:15:42 PM
I think it’s awesome to be passionate about something that you want to learn as much as possible about the subject. I love a lot of things but don’t have that passion.
Taylor (host) 11:16:09 PM
The Psycho house at Universal Studios is just a 3-D facade. There's nothing inside at all. All of the shots in the film that show the inside of the house were filmed on a soundstage.
Taylor (host) 11:17:43 PM
Totally guilty, Papa. I don't do things halfway. If I love something--film, music, books, etc.--I have to go all the way down the rabbit hole.
Taylor (host) 11:19:21 PM
Plus, I'm a voracious reader and I often read about those subjects so you pick up things along the way. I've finished two novels in the past 4 days.
Papa Rich 11:19:41 PM
I admire that. I know others that get passionate about stuff they love. Hopefully someday I find that one thing that makes me just want to learn everything I can.
Taylor (host) 11:22:27 PM
It's just how I'm built. Learning about the things that interest me is the only thing that makes sense to me.
Frank Demian 11:22:32 PM
Is the dilapidated house from Fight Club a fake house too
Taylor (host) 11:23:03 PM
I'm not sure where they shot that. But I can definitely tell you that the scene where they meet on the airplane wasn't a real airplane.
Taylor (host) 11:23:52 PM
Ed Norton and Brad Pitt both have Method Actor tendencies though, so I bet a lot of the punches they hit each other with were real.
Joe from So Cal 11:24:38 PM
Got in 10 minutes ago. Taylor, you are shredding it up tonight.
Taylor (host) 11:24:49 PM
If the house was truly as dilapidated as it appears in the film, the studio's insurance company wouldn't have let them shoot there. Too dangerous for the actors.
Taylor (host) 11:25:06 PM
Hey, Joe! Yeah, it's feeling pretty good tonight.
Frank Demian 11:26:27 PM
Good to see you rejoin Our Gang, Little JoeSkull
Joe from So Cal 11:27:17 PM
You know it.
Taylor (host) 11:28:01 PM
Just wait until we get to the classicks... I've got a firestorm on deck for you all tonight.
Joe from So Cal 11:29:01 PM
Your collection, can't find words.
Taylor (host) 11:29:52 PM
As I said earlier, I'm just a junkie and records are my fix. I'm happy to share the love, though.
Papa Rich 11:32:50 PM
Sounding more like a dealer than a junkie. Just a taste and then we’re hooked!
Taylor (host) 11:42:11 PM
Ha. Hopefully I'm better for everyone's health than most drugs.
Papa Rich 11:42:55 PM
Of course you are violating the first rule. Don’t get high off your own supply.
Taylor (host) 11:43:15 PM
Definitely that. I'm a terrible metal dealer.
Papa Rich 11:43:25 PM
Ha!!
Frank Demian 11:44:02 PM
I need more, I'll even do those things that usually cost "extra"
Taylor (host) 11:44:33 PM
Good thing my drugs are free.
Taylor (host) 11:53:54 PM
Ooh my goodness... Things are about to get epic.
Papa Rich 11:54:17 PM
How can it get better?
Taylor (host) 11:54:48 PM
You'll see.
Papa Rich 12:08:38 AM
It keeps getting better. My apologies for questioning.
Taylor (host) 12:08:58 AM
Ha. Just getting warmed up.
Frank Demian 12:12:53 AM
Danzig was the breadsticks before the Lasagna eh Taylor
Taylor (host) 12:13:00 AM
Ha. Something like that.
Papa Rich 12:17:14 AM
Damn! All I can think about are breadsticks.
Taylor (host) 12:17:40 AM
Breadsticks do sound great right now.
Frank Demian 12:19:54 AM
Fun fact, I have never eaten at Olive Garden
Taylor (host) 12:20:39 AM
Ha. I've actually eaten there a lot. I don't understand why people hate on it so much. It's good for what it is.
Taylor (host) 12:20:51 AM
Best Italian food I've ever had was in Portland, though.
Papa Rich 12:21:16 AM
Those are good breadsticks. Chicken parmigiana also.
Papa Rich 12:21:30 AM
Good Long Islands too.
Taylor (host) 12:21:34 AM
The Toscana soup, too. I could eat a gallon of that stuff.
Papa Rich 12:21:51 AM
Portland?
Taylor (host) 12:22:16 AM
Yeah, some family owned place there. It was so bomb that I ate there 4 times in 5 nights on one of my trips.
Taylor (host) 12:23:04 AM
Super reasonable, too. A huge plate of chicken alfredo with bread, salad, and a drink was only 15 bucks.
Papa Rich 12:23:43 AM
Nice!
Papa Rich 12:31:18 AM
Sounds like you have been to a lot of places are you a traveler in general or were they for specific reasons?
Taylor (host) 12:32:17 AM
Actually, I haven't been to all that many places. I don't get to travel very often, so when I do it's usually a return to a place I've already been and love.
Frank Demian 12:34:17 AM
How many Bob's Big Boy have you dined at
Taylor (host) 12:35:34 AM
At least 4, maybe more.
Taylor (host) 12:36:12 AM
There actually used to be one on Foothill in Pomona. I ate there a lot as a kid.
Frank Demian 12:36:19 AM
How about Andersens Pea Soup Restaurant
Papa Rich 12:36:37 AM
May I suggest adding to the PSA that if you do approach a wild animal, especially one bigger than you, please make sure someone is filming for our amusement later.
Taylor (host) 12:36:37 AM
There was also one probably 40 years ago actually inside the Montclair Plaza, a whole sit-down location.
Taylor (host) 12:37:09 AM
I have never eaten at an Andersen's, but I have definitely seen their billboards. I have, however, stopped at the Alien jerky place.
Taylor (host) 12:37:19 AM
I've also stopped in a town that is literally called Weed.
Frank Demian 12:38:27 AM
Did the whole town smell funny
Joe from So Cal 12:39:03 AM
We camped at Bloody Dick Creek in Montana

Taylor (host) 12:39:31 AM
It was a mountain town, so the air actually smelled really clean. I stopped at a gas station and bought a lighter that said Weed on it.
Papa Rich 12:39:36 AM
Been to Beaver, Utah. Man, they sure do make a killing on the “I love Beaver” merchandise.
Taylor (host) 12:39:50 AM
Montana is a way underrated place. Beautiful country up there.
Joe from So Cal 12:40:02 AM
You know it is
Taylor (host) 12:40:15 AM
I don't think I could live so far from concerts, but I could see myself renting a cabin and writing a novel up there someday.
Papa Rich 12:40:37 AM
WTF? How do you get the family to agree to go to Bloody Dick Creek?
Taylor (host) 12:44:29 AM
I read a great book about the linguistic history of profanity, and before our puritanical culture made the f-word naughty, there were quite a few towns in Europe with that in their names.
Papa Rich 12:45:33 AM
Any examples you remember?
Joe from So Cal 12:46:21 AM
I keep thinking, this show will sound great in the car, on my way to work next week.
Taylor (host) 12:46:28 AM
Not off the top of my head. But since family names often drew their lineage from the towns they came from, there were plenty of last names with similar results.
Taylor (host) 12:49:01 AM
This is one of the secret weapons in the Slayer catalog.
Papa Rich 12:50:53 AM
Were all the songs covers on this album?
Taylor (host) 12:51:08 AM
Except for this one.
Taylor (host) 12:51:26 AM
This whole outro...
Joe from So Cal 12:54:54 AM
Taylor, your show is the best. To the rest of the Krew, see you all next week.
Papa Rich 12:56:40 AM
If you don’t say good night, we’re just going to stick around.
Taylor (host) 12:59:09 AM
You should probably do that.
Joe from So Cal 12:59:25 AM
Ha! I remember that!
Frank Demian 1:00:26 AM
Amazing show yet again, still stuffing my brain back into my skull, have a great weekend Empire of Evil !!
Papa Rich 1:01:58 AM
First time I wasn’t tricked. Feeling good.
Taylor (host) 1:02:22 AM
I get to sleep in until 8 tomorrow. It felt right.
Mike Anderson 1:02:39 AM
Good night all!! Till next time!! Killer as always Taylor!!
Papa Rich 1:03:58 AM
Plus 3 hours went quick. We needed extra tracks.
Taylor (host) 1:04:19 AM
It really did fly by tonight.
Taylor (host) 1:04:45 AM
Since Papa figured it out, I guess I need to pull out a left field track for him.
Papa Rich 1:11:35 AM
I’m hoping my phone lasts. It’s running low and my charger isn’t near by.
Taylor (host) 1:13:14 AM
Man, that would suck. I'm ending strong tonight, too.
Papa Rich 1:13:52 AM
I’ll make it. I would just lose chat. I should be cool though.
Joe from So Cal 1:17:15 AM
So far, I'm still catching the entire show, 192 kbs.
Papa Rich 1:18:09 AM
Nice!!!
Taylor (host) 1:19:39 AM
Such a brilliant record.
Papa Rich 1:19:39 AM
Thanks for Ministry
Taylor (host) 1:21:53 AM
The next track is gonna put this whole playlist over the top. And then the last one is going to make this one for the ages.
Papa Rich 1:22:49 AM
So far these bonus tracks have been epic!
Taylor (host) 1:22:58 AM
Get ready.
Taylor (host) 1:26:00 AM
It's funny, there was a Marvel tie-in with this record since it's called Wolverine Blues... but Marvel made them leave this track off. So if you get the version with Wolverine on the cover, you don't get the best song on the record.
Papa Rich 1:26:47 AM
I’m bowing down. If the next song can close over this, it must be worthy.
Mike Anderson 1:27:55 AM
Sick dude!! Thank you for overtime Taylor!!
Papa Rich 1:28:09 AM
Good night all! Have a happy and safe holiday weekend. Take care. Hope to be with you all next week.
Joe from So Cal 1:28:28 AM
You the Man, Taylor. Humble thanks.
Taylor (host) 1:28:31 AM
Good night everyone!
Taylor (host) 1:28:43 AM
Thanks for staying up late with me.
Taylor (host) 1:29:04 AM
Can't wait to gather next Friday. Everyone have an awesome week. Congrats again, Mike!
Taylor (host) 1:29:09 AM
GOOD NIGHT!!!
Taylor (host) 1:29:15 AM
(For real)
