Out here I'm greeted with hostility whenever I light up, but out there I can just chill at the bar with a beer and enjoy myself.

Yeah, I can’t even take a puff now without getting one. Kind of a bummer.

I have an acquaintance who worked with her on several occasions, and he said she was an absolutely lovely woman--kind, unpretentious, and a delight to work with.

I mean, smoking is terrible for you, so maybe that's a good thing, Papa.

Ha. I was a lifer from the very first puff I took. Most people say they get sick, but I was smitten immediately.

And I've met a whole lot of cool people over the years specifically because we were outside smoking and got into a conversation.

That doesn't happen as much these days, though. Mostly, it's people trying to bum off me now.

Plus you can’t look cool with a vape pen. There’s no way you inhaled. That was too much “mist” and you barely took the puff.

Ha. Yeah, I'll hold back on my rant so as to not offend any listeners who might be vapers...

I'll just say I don't understand why me smoking 50 yards away from any other human being gets me glared out, but people are evidently fine sucking in a huge cloud of cotton candy being blown right in their faces.

This disc is in one of those large DVD-sized digipacks, so I had it on a shelf with a few other random things that are oversized. When I stumbled across it I realized it had been a long time since I played these guys, so it was on.

I think I'll be bringing a bunch of classic discs with me when I roll to Vegas in a couple of weeks. I play individual tracks every week, but sometimes being able to listen to a whole favorite record in sequence is a treat.

Taylor, kinda off topic but have you heard of a man named Larry Strothe, he has an enormous collection of Creature From the Black Lagoon memorabilia

I have not, but I'm sure I'd be jealous.

I have some pretty choice pieces myself. Creatch is my all-time favorite monster. Although that film is actually a love story.

I found out on Sunday about him appearing on a channel called MeTV, and then I forgot to watch

I'm sure he has all the stuff I do and more, but I like my little collection. I'm pretty much out of space in my apartment anyway.

On the MeTV website there is a sampling of his stuff, including an old Remco action figure

That's awesome. I don't have anything that old, but that Remco is a classic piece.

The sad thing is that there's almost nothing left from the movie itself. In those days, movies weren't viewed as art the same way they are now, so props and such were just re-used in multiple movies until they got too old, then they were tossed out.

Do you remember getting Monster themed candy in your trick or treat bag, really chalky stuff, I know Frankenstein's monster was on the little box, maybe the Mummy and The Creature on other boxes

I totally remember that.

They were like Smarties inside, but they were shaped like monsters.

The closest thing I own to a movie "prop" is a bottle of sand and water from the lake in New Jersey that was used as Crystal Lake in the first Friday The 13th movie.

But if had money and space, I would totally be a hardcore collector. I get giddy when I see screen-used props.

I've been in the same room with Jack Nicholson's axe from The Shining. That was rad.

Is it on display at The Overlook Hotel?

It's been shipped various places. I saw it in Seattle at a horror and sci-fi exhibit at EXP.

EMP, I mean.

And there are two "Overlook" hotels. The exteriors were filmed at one hotel, but all of the interiors were filmed at a completely different hotel.

If you want to be technical, there's actually three. There's another hotel that Stephen King stayed at, where some bizarre haunting activity inspired him to write the novel. He based the hotel in his book on that spot.

Ha. That's common practice in films. Most houses and public locations aren't set up to place multiple cameras and all the lighting equipment required to film a scene. So usually when you see people go into a location in a film, the exterior is one place and the interiors are filmed on a sound stage.

I think it’s awesome to be passionate about something that you want to learn as much as possible about the subject. I love a lot of things but don’t have that passion.

The Psycho house at Universal Studios is just a 3-D facade. There's nothing inside at all. All of the shots in the film that show the inside of the house were filmed on a soundstage.

Totally guilty, Papa. I don't do things halfway. If I love something--film, music, books, etc.--I have to go all the way down the rabbit hole.

Plus, I'm a voracious reader and I often read about those subjects so you pick up things along the way. I've finished two novels in the past 4 days.

I admire that. I know others that get passionate about stuff they love. Hopefully someday I find that one thing that makes me just want to learn everything I can.

It's just how I'm built. Learning about the things that interest me is the only thing that makes sense to me.

Is the dilapidated house from Fight Club a fake house too

I'm not sure where they shot that. But I can definitely tell you that the scene where they meet on the airplane wasn't a real airplane.

Ed Norton and Brad Pitt both have Method Actor tendencies though, so I bet a lot of the punches they hit each other with were real.

Yeah, some family owned place there. It was so bomb that I ate there 4 times in 5 nights on one of my trips.

Super reasonable, too. A huge plate of chicken alfredo with bread, salad, and a drink was only 15 bucks.

Actually, I haven't been to all that many places. I don't get to travel very often, so when I do it's usually a return to a place I've already been and love.

There actually used to be one on Foothill in Pomona. I ate there a lot as a kid.

There was also one probably 40 years ago actually inside the Montclair Plaza, a whole sit-down location.

I have never eaten at an Andersen's, but I have definitely seen their billboards. I have, however, stopped at the Alien jerky place.

I've also stopped in a town that is literally called Weed.

It was a mountain town, so the air actually smelled really clean. I stopped at a gas station and bought a lighter that said Weed on it.

Been to Beaver, Utah. Man, they sure do make a killing on the “I love Beaver” merchandise.

I read a great book about the linguistic history of profanity, and before our puritanical culture made the f-word naughty, there were quite a few towns in Europe with that in their names.

Any examples you remember?

I keep thinking, this show will sound great in the car, on my way to work next week.

Not off the top of my head. But since family names often drew their lineage from the towns they came from, there were plenty of last names with similar results.
