Touch of Evil

Oct 7, 2022 10:00 PM â€“ 1:00 AM

With Taylor

A morbid menagerie of past and future metal classics melded into a chaotic cacophony of sinister sounds for bleeding ears. Death is no escape here; in fact, it's where we begin our journey. This ride stops at Maiden, Mayhem, Melvins, Meshuggah, and all points in between. So climb aboard and put your horns, and the volume, way up.

Good evil-ning Taylor and headbanging friends of the fellowship!
Taylor (host) 10:03:45 PM
Good evil-ning, Dave!
Taylor (host) 10:03:50 PM
How are you tonight, sir?
Dave 10:04:29 PM
Decent enough… how about you?
Frank Daddy-O Demian 10:04:32 PM
Hey Empire of Evil ! Howl is it Friday already ?!
Joe from So Cal 10:04:57 PM
Let the chaos reign Taylor. Good to be here.
Taylor (host) 10:05:19 PM
Doing great, man!
Taylor (host) 10:05:25 PM
Howdy, Wolfman Frank!
Taylor (host) 10:05:41 PM
Awesome to have you, brother Joe! The chaos is unfolding as we speak.
Dave 10:06:54 PM
Sorry for the lack of chat input and early departure on my part last week. I had intestinal health issues creep up on me again, which lasted all week. But I think I’m over them now.
Frank Daddy-O Demian 10:07:20 PM
Let me give Taylor , Dave and Joe a BIG HI-FI !
Taylor (host) 10:07:20 PM
No sweat, Dave. You're always with us in spirit, brother. Glad you're feeling better!
Joe from So Cal 10:09:13 PM
Did anyone else catch the Batushka shoa at 1720 last Wednesday? Amazing.
Taylor (host) 10:09:44 PM
I've still never been to a show there, man. They always book rad stuff, but LA shows are tough for me to make it to.
Dave 10:09:52 PM
Hi-five’s back at ya, Frank, Joe and Taylor! 5 \m/’s
Joe from So Cal 10:10:27 PM
Two bands from Poland. Both were great
Taylor (host) 10:11:20 PM
I'm not surprised. Poland cranks out some awesome metal bands.
Joe from So Cal 10:11:55 PM
Dam, I can tell tonight is gonna be a banger.
Joe from So Cal 10:12:43 PM
Dave, if I stare at that avatar long enough, i might just flip out.
Taylor (host) 10:12:48 PM
I'm aiming to make this one for the ages, Joe.
Dave 10:13:14 PM
Diggin’ this Hirax track… F#$@in’ SICK!!!
Taylor (host) 10:14:48 PM
Hirax just flat-out rules.
Frank Daddy-O Demian 10:16:22 PM
Crank the volume UP, as Wolfman would say, "lay your hands on the radio and squeeze my knobs"
Taylor (host) 10:16:56 PM
I have a whole box set of Midnight Special episodes from back in the day. That was such a rad show.
Taylor (host) 10:17:10 PM
First television performances from so many legendary bands when they were starting out.
Dave 10:17:21 PM
Ha!… that’s the intended effect I’m going for, Joe! Glad ya dig it! You should see the full neon multi-colored ones I use from time to time on the Boss Guy’s show on Sunday nights… They’re quite possibly seizure-inducing!
Taylor (host) 10:17:41 PM
Ha. Dave's got a built-in music video for most of the songs I'm playing tonight.
Frank Daddy-O Demian 10:19:41 PM
D-Dave nrut ffo eht fig mi gnisluvnoc
Taylor (host) 10:22:37 PM
Ti thgim tsuj eb eht cisum, Frank...
Dave 10:23:43 PM
Actually, I found a way to stop the speed flashing avatar to a single frame on my phone, and can continue doing so in that I can see every frame in the avatar. I found some of the frames look very familiar, as if they were used in a horror movie that I saw a long time ago. (the title which escapes me)
Frank Daddy-O Demian 10:24:25 PM
Is that possible Taylor, to have an auditory seizure ?
Taylor (host) 10:24:35 PM
It's my goal every week, dude.
Taylor (host) 10:25:16 PM
If you're not feeling slightly ill by the end of the show, then I haven't been doing my job.
Frank Daddy-O Demian 10:25:39 PM
I had a seizure once, when I was about 12, I had chicken pox AND spinal meningitis at the same time, I guess it had weakened me greatly
Taylor (host) 10:26:30 PM
That's gnarly, Frank. I've been lucky to be seizure free, as far as I know.
Dave 10:27:02 PM
Some of these gif’s I find online ACTUALLY COME WITH WARNINGS!! … “Extreme flashing lights may cause seizures in some viewers.”
Taylor (host) 10:27:51 PM
I've seen those warnings at some concerts I've been to.
Taylor (host) 10:27:59 PM
Also on a few video games I've played.
Taylor (host) 10:29:12 PM
The band Car Bomb I play (but not often enough, because they effing rule), they have a row of strobe lights cued to the drummer's kick drum, so when they're blasting with their riffs on stage the lights are exploding in your face perfectly in time. I guarantee that effect has messed up people at their shows before.
Dave 10:30:04 PM
I almost did the poor Boss Guy in once during his show with a Bob Dylan neon multi-colored gif that was flashing so fast… that may have been the most extreme one to date!
Taylor (host) 10:30:45 PM
Yeah, if the thing you have on right now was in color, that would probably mess me up, too.
Frank Daddy-O Demian 10:33:12 PM
Dave, am I seeing the the actual "Ring" video from the 2002 horror film "The Ring" in your avatar ?
Dave 10:33:13 PM
I actually used to suffer from seizures as a child due to epilepsy and a near fatal bout with encephalitis at the age of 2-3 years old. Flashing lights never induced the seizures though, they would just come on without warning.
Taylor (host) 10:33:38 PM
That's exactly what it is!
Taylor (host) 10:33:46 PM
I knew I recognized it!
Taylor (host) 10:41:16 PM
Does that mean I'm going to die in 7 days?
Frank Daddy-O Demian 10:41:49 PM
There was a typo in the script, you are going to DIET in 7 days
Frank Daddy-O Demian 10:42:43 PM
Get lean and mean to make room for Halloween candy soon
Taylor (host) 10:46:47 PM
I already started on the Halloween candy. All of October is Halloween to me.
Mike Anderson 10:52:55 PM
HELLo!!
Taylor (host) 10:53:05 PM
HELLo, Mike! How are you, sir?
Mike Anderson 10:53:33 PM
Just leaving the Slipknow show in Irvine
Frank Daddy-O Demian 10:53:57 PM
During the Pandemic, I spent most of October 2020 and October 2021 watching certain movies for the first time, such as Return of the Living Dead , Dawn of the Dead (1978 and 2004) I Spit On Your Grave (1978) Evil Dead 1 and 2 and Army of Darkness etc
Taylor (host) 10:56:23 PM
Nice! How was the show, Mike?
Taylor (host) 10:56:33 PM
Some of my favorites on that list, Frank.
Mike Anderson 10:58:26 PM
It was cool, the sound could've been a little better . Needed more bass, more full. But it was cool
Frank Daddy-O Demian 10:59:15 PM
AWOOO ! Wolfman Frank gives Mike a BIG HI-FI
Taylor (host) 10:59:21 PM
I'm a little disappointed with the new record. I thought the last one was incredible, but this new one is just okay to me.
Mike Anderson 11:01:45 PM
They only played 1 song off the new album. The Dying Song
Taylor (host) 11:03:27 PM
So maybe they're not too stoked about the new one either. It seems like they cranked it out pretty quickly.
Mike Anderson 11:05:45 PM
This was the last show from this tour and Corey said this is it for awhile., but they'll be back for sure. You would think they'd wanna support the new album and go out again
Taylor (host) 11:08:23 PM
Yeah, I had heard they were going on hiatus after this.
Mike Anderson 11:10:46 PM
Hitting the road so I'll be off chat but blasting the show in the car
Taylor (host) 11:11:52 PM
Drive safe, brother!
Dave 11:17:04 PM
HELLo Mike!
Dave 11:48:30 PM
This is another sick playlist you have put together tonight… pretty good for not having a properly functioning CD player at home to preview the songs!
Taylor (host) 11:50:34 PM
Ha. Just got lucky, I guess.
Taylor (host) 11:51:19 PM
Just wait until we get to the classicks. Got some surprises on deck tonight.
Frank Daddy-O Demian 11:52:36 PM
I already know one of the bands, Taylor, it's gonna be BAD4GOOD fronted by Danny Cooksey from Diff'rent Strokes sitcom
Taylor (host) 11:53:12 PM
Ha. I actually do have that CD.
Dave 11:53:39 PM
Sweet… the classicks are always something to look forward to, especially the surprises!
Taylor (host) 11:54:22 PM
I'm feeling pretty old school tonight. It should be lots of fun.
Dave 12:03:38 AM
Oh, this is DEFINITELY old school!!
Taylor (host) 12:04:17 AM
I was just listening to the record again today. I can't even guess how many times I've spun this disc.
Dave 12:07:39 AM
Do you have the Operation: LIVEcrime CD/VHS that you were supposed to synch up with each other to get “the total Operation: Mindcrime experience”?
Taylor (host) 12:08:45 AM
I had the cassette / VHS version, and then somehow I ended up with the CD by itself. I really wish I had it on DVD, but it's crazy out of print now.
Taylor (host) 12:10:23 AM
Maybe I'll transfer it if I find the VHS. I know my folks have a VHS to DVD burner and I have a stack of VHS tapes I've been meaning to transfer anyway.
Taylor (host) 12:11:03 AM
My boss just gave me a few rad ones today, so if nothing else I need to hook up some kind of VCR so I can watch them.
Dave 12:11:07 AM
I bought it way back when it was first released so many years ago. I still have the CD, but I’m not exactly sure where the VHS tape is. Kind of funny what passed for “state-of-the-art” back then!
Joe from So Cal 12:12:50 AM
I've got a couple VHS tapes I need converted also. Not really music related though.
Taylor (host) 12:15:57 AM
I have a big stack of bootleg metal shows from the '90s on VHS, including a couple shows I actually went to. I want to get them preserved digitally so they don't end up getting lost forever.
Joe from So Cal 12:16:57 AM
Good idea, they may be available nowhere else.
Taylor (host) 12:17:48 AM
They're totally not. It's all dude on stage filming or in the crowd on old-school video cameras. The quality isn't the best on all of them, but how else am I going to see a Pungent Stench show from 1993?
Taylor (host) 12:19:29 AM
I also have the Deicide show I went to at the Showcase back in 1995. My one and only stagedive ever, and it was recorded. Suffocation opened that show and I have their set as well.
Joe from So Cal 12:20:02 AM
Sounds like some great shows.
Taylor (host) 12:21:15 AM
I can't even remember what's all in there. I found some dude selling them way back when and he cut me a really good deal. I ended up with something like 30 VHS tapes, most of which have 2-3 shows on them each.
Taylor (host) 12:23:38 AM
The tapes I got today are rad also. I found a big box of random VHS at my work and pulled a few to see how much my boss wanted for them. He was so happy with the work I did today, he just gave them to me.
Taylor (host) 12:23:59 AM
One of them is an entire Headbanger's Ball episode from 1990 with Megadeth on it.
Taylor (host) 12:24:38 AM
One was one of those old in-store promo VHS with a bunch of music videos on it. I mainly wanted that one because one of the videos on there is Judas Priest's "Touch Of Evil".
Joe from So Cal 12:24:51 AM
Tapes can deteriorate. They should be preserved.
Taylor (host) 12:25:10 AM
I know. I need to get on that. It's just a time consuming project and I don't have a ton of free time ever.
Joe from So Cal 12:26:08 AM
I heard a killer Judas Priest song on Sirius Liquid Metal today. Would have fit right into the show.
Taylor (host) 12:26:17 AM
Which track?
Taylor (host) 12:26:25 AM
This one...?
Joe from So Cal 12:27:17 AM
I have a bad case of CRS (can't remember sh*t)
Taylor (host) 12:27:25 AM
HA!
Taylor (host) 12:27:40 AM
It's cool, man. They have such a huge catalog. I know there are songs I've forgotten all about too.
Joe from So Cal 12:29:12 AM
I look at the playlist, some I have, others no. Always educational.
Joe from So Cal 12:30:53 AM
It's nice to be reacquainted with this classsick JP
Dave 12:34:08 AM
Be careful of the quality of disc you use to transfer over to. I was reading an article about CDs, DVDs and LaserDiscs and how they can be subject to “disc rot”, which is due primarily due to chemical reactions within the layers of the reflective coating and plastic layers in the disc.
Dave 12:34:28 AM
It is almost entirely due to manufacturing practices and/or defects, although human mishandling and abuse can certainly lead to disc rot as well over time. CD-Rs and DVD-Rs, unfortunately, can have a greater chance of disc rot.
Taylor (host) 12:34:34 AM
All over that, Dave. That's why I never buy cheap off brand discs.
Taylor (host) 12:35:02 AM
If you're getting 100 CD-Rs for 10 bucks. there's something very wrong with those discs.
Taylor (host) 12:36:19 AM
Tell you what... let's make this last set one of the greatest sets we've ever done.
Taylor (host) 12:36:35 AM
We're going beyond classick for this batch.
Dave 12:37:25 AM
This set is dedicated to “title track-sicks”!
Joe from So Cal 12:37:31 AM
I've got about 7.5 TB of music backed up on hard drives. 9 drives, 3 copies of each.
Taylor (host) 12:37:50 AM
Ha. Not quite. But it's gonna be good.
Taylor (host) 12:38:09 AM
That's quite a database, Joe!
Joe from So Cal 12:38:24 AM
It's an obsession.
Taylor (host) 12:40:24 AM
Oh, I know the obsession of accumulating music very well, my friend. I already bought 3 CDs today, and during the show I've been shopping on Discogs. I have like 15 discs in my cart that looked cool from a distributor in Romania. I'll give some tracks a listen after the show and decide what to leave in the cart to place an order.
Joe from So Cal 12:47:09 AM
I think I heard you say you're at around 13,000 units?
Taylor (host) 12:47:37 AM
Something like that.
Joe from So Cal 12:48:53 AM
I'm at around 7,000. Plenty to listen to. It's great, isn't it?
Taylor (host) 12:49:14 AM
Ha. It's insane is what it is! But I wouldn't have it any other way.
Dave 12:50:21 AM
I have noticed that I do have one CD that has some very obvious signs of disc rot. It is a copy of Scorpions Lonesome Crow (either a German or UK import) I bought eons ago. The reflective side was originally silver in color, but is now a nice golden-bronze, so there was definitely a high amount of oxidation that occurred.
Dave 12:50:44 AM
The last time I played it though (in that oxidized condition), it played just fine, so I’m not too worried about it. And anyways, Lonesome Crow can be easily found in any halfway decent record store, special ordered, or purchased online. I bought mine way back when it was out-of-print, and the internet didn’t exist (or at least, was only a concept not ready for prime-time).
Mike Anderson 12:52:33 AM
Made it home in time to say thank you Taylor for the ride home!! My buddy Tim I went with digs the show!! I'm gonna get him to tune in
Joe from So Cal 12:52:36 AM
I have around 400 CDr's from small indie bands. The first thing I do is rip a lossless fille, save it to 3 hard drives.
Dave 12:53:02 AM
Man, you are finishing up strong with this set for sure!
Taylor (host) 12:53:13 AM
Awesome, Mike! Thanks for spreading the word! Give Tim my best!
Mike Anderson 12:53:26 AM
Will do!
Joe from So Cal 12:53:48 AM
Hey Mike, it's great hearing the show in the car.
Taylor (host) 12:53:55 AM
I do the same thing, Joe.
Mike Anderson 12:54:15 AM
Yes it is Joe, especially streaming it loud and clear
Joe from So Cal 12:54:24 AM
I'll be listening to the show again come Tuesday.
Taylor (host) 12:55:12 AM
You're die-hard, Joe. I definitely appreciate your enthusiasm!
Dave 12:56:41 AM
Thank you for sick show tonight! Take care, be safe, and I will hear you again next week. Thanks again and good night!
Dave 12:57:00 AM
Good night, take care and be safe, everyone… see you all next week!
Frank Daddy-O Demian 12:57:34 AM
Thank You Taylor and the Empire of Evil, I had a 3 hour auditory seizure, and I hope next Friday yields the same if not better results ! Goodnight all you hep cats, Wolfman Frank is headed to the car hop for a malted milkshake ! AWOOO !
Joe from So Cal 12:58:18 AM
Taylor, I deeply appreciate you spending your time, giving us this righteous show. Thank you.
Mike Anderson 12:58:41 AM
See ya on the 800th edition! Goodnight
Taylor (host) 12:58:54 AM
Thank you, Joe. You're the ones who make this show righteous.
Joe from So Cal 12:59:03 AM
Good night to the krew. Catch you all down the road.
Taylor (host) 12:59:06 AM
Always awesome to chat with you dudes. Everyone have a great week!
Taylor (host) 12:59:22 AM
I'll talk at you next Friday for Ep 800!
Taylor (host) 12:59:30 AM
Until then... Good night!
