Blake 12:58:37 PM
Hey Nadine! How is it today?
DanS 12:59:11 PM
Hi, Nadine! The streams aren't working.
Nadine Francis (host) 12:59:29 PM
Oh bummer - thanks, Dan - I'll let folks know!
Nadine Francis (host) 1:00:44 PM
Hi Blake!
Blake 1:01:43 PM
Hey Dan!
Blake 1:04:21 PM
What you said about the Handmaids Tale has always been a thing with me. If you have a story that deals with oppression or something like that, and then you add a statement or message that runs counter to the premise of the show, it makes the show inconsistent and illogical.
Nadine Francis (host) 1:05:22 PM
Yeah, and I think there's just some sort of bad/lazy writing going on ... where characters do things that make no sense other than to keep the plot points moving. It's a bummer, cuz I think the acting is amazing and it's beautifully shot.
DanS 1:05:39 PM
Hi Blake!
Blake 1:06:12 PM
That’s too bad.
DanS 1:06:35 PM
It's frustrating when that happens to a show you like.
DanS 1:07:57 PM
Roger Ebert used to call that the "idiot plot" when characters have to do idiotic things to move the plot forward.
Nadine Francis (host) 1:08:27 PM
I LOVED Roger Ebert! Although I probably found myself agreeing with Gene Siskel more. :-)
DanS 1:08:42 PM
The Handmaids Tale book was very good.
Nadine Francis (host) 1:09:00 PM
Yes, very. I read it in college, but then listened to it on audible recently.
DanS 1:10:26 PM
Yeah, Roger could get a bit too esoteric and Gene cut through the BS and looked at movies like a normal person.
Blake 1:13:26 PM
Ok so I have weird taste. There was a show that we used to watch back in the 90’s called Millenium. The strong point of the show was the marriage that the main character had. It was a focal point of the show. When the creator of the show allowed Fox to handle the show while he focused on the X-Files movie, they destroyed the most important part of the show. By the time he came back, it was beyond repair .
DanS 1:19:30 PM
Oh, yeah. I watched Millenium but I can't remember much about it.
Nadine Francis (host) 1:19:33 PM
Oh, I think I remember that show ... I really liked it!
Nadine Francis (host) 1:19:59 PM
I also liked this dopey one called "The Pretender." But I'm going to blame being a teenager on that.
BoyNamedActually 1:21:07 PM
Came here to mention the stream is down, but I see DanS beat me to it! Won't be able to listen in this week, but enjoy everyone!
Blake 1:21:09 PM
It was basically one of the first shows about a profiler. He could see what happened at a crime scene, in his mind.
Nadine Francis (host) 1:21:39 PM
Hey BNA! Thanks for letting us know. It's a bummer, cuz I actually had some new material today! :-) Catch you next time!
Blake 1:22:28 PM
Hi BNA.
BoyNamedActually 1:24:20 PM
catch you all in a few! I'll be out of town next week, but I'll be back after that
DanS 1:26:13 PM
You mean I'm missing new jokes and anecdotes, Nadine?
DanS 1:27:13 PM
Hi Boy Named Actually! Enjoy your trip.
Nadine Francis (host) 1:27:27 PM
Ha, yes, Dan! Two new movies and two new TV shows ... and, of course, tons of jokes and anecdotes. (Not really, but you know ... :-)
BoyNamedActually 1:28:43 PM
thank you!
Blake 1:29:45 PM
Oh! Chefs Table, Ivan Orkin episode- Bach Cello suite #1prelude. It’s too bad the other suites are so rarely sampled.
Blake 1:30:16 PM
Heard it last week and thought of you
Nadine Francis (host) 1:30:37 PM
Ah, great - thanks, Blake! I'm on it!
Blake 1:31:44 PM
It’s a great episode on top of it.
Blake 1:34:00 PM
I’m gonna have to go to a work meeting before the show ends but I wanted to say thanks for the show!!! My supervisor and I came up on a terrible car accident this morning and my minds been heavy all day. The show made me feel normal, again, so thanks!!
Nadine Francis (host) 1:35:32 PM
Ah, sorry about the accident, but glad you could tune in, Blake. Hang in there and see you next time!
Blake 1:46:21 PM
Thanks for the show and the therapyπŸ˜‚
Blake 1:46:51 PM
Cya Dan! Drive safe all of you!
DanS 1:50:18 PM
Thanks, Blake. Sorry I couldn't listen this time but thanks for the chat, Nadine. Have a good week!
Nadine Francis (host) 1:52:38 PM
Thanks for joining anyway, Dan! I'll do a repeat next week. :-)
