Real People Real Radio
Tucson and Southern Arizona's Community Radio
Hello My name is Martin "DJ Mookie" Smith,
My dad (T. Richard Smith) host of the IMPAK show on KXCI is the reason I wanted to get into being a DJ. He's been on the airways for over 40 years now an taught my brother and I about the rich history of R&B 50s-present music. During the summers of early 90's-early 2000's my dad would take my brother and me down to KXCI to watch him do the Sounds Of Joy Gospel show. My dad had a chance to become one of the first Black African-American Broadcaster in the state of Arizona. He interviewed huge megastars like James Brown, Dennis Edwards of The Temptations, Larry Cunningham of The Floaters, Sam Moore from Sam & Dave, The Bar-Kays at Casino Desert Diamond Monsoon and many, many more electrifying superstars. My dad had a passion for doing the radio show and being a MC! An it was doing the shows with my dad on the radio were I fell in love with being a DJ. I just got my official DJ certification last year 2018 and ready to give you the soulful sounds of IMPAK every Saturday night from 9pm-12am. My dad passed away on November 29th, 2019 and I took over the show for him now. IMPAK with DJ MOOKIE will continue. R.I.H. Thomas "T. Richard" Smith. I Love You so much!!
Yah Bless Y'all,
Martin E. "Mookie" Smith
