Dark End of the Street was released both digitally and on a limited edition double 10". It contains six songs originally by Brendan Behan, James Carr, Sandy Denny, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Otis Redding, and Aretha Franklin, which were recorded during Cat Power's Jukebox sessions.

Bridges on how he encountered Otis's work: "I wrote a song in that period of time ('60s soul) and a friend asked me if Sam Cooke was one of my inspirations. I had never really listened to Sam Cooke when he asked that. And so after that I started to really dig in to that music and a door opened for me. I saw that this is the music I need to make."

“Strange Timez” arrives alongside the news that Gorillaz will compile the tracks from their first season of Song Machine into a new release, Strange Timez, out October 23rd. Gorillaz launched Song Machine back in January with the aim of releasing music outside the constraints of a typical album cycle. Prior to “Strange Timez,” they released five tracks: “Momentary Bliss,” with Slowthai and Salves; “Désolé,” with Fatoumata Diawar; “Aries,” with Peter Hook and Georgia; “Friday 13th,” with Octavian; and “Pac-Man” with Schoolboy Q.

The Prine Family and their label, Oh Boy Records, has released what was John Prine’s final recording. It’s a song he wrote with his pal Pat McLaughlin called “I Remember Everything.”

Amanda Palmer and Rhiannon Giddens have shared a cover of Portishead’s “It’s a Fire.” Proceeds from the single are going to the Free Black University Fund.
