The Fall Mansion
This Nation's Saving Grace Beggars Banquet 1985
Hello!
10:04 PM
Josef K - Sense of Guilt
Josef K Sense of Guilt
Entomology Domino Recording Co 2006

Scottish post-punk band from the late 70s. Heavily influenced by the writings of Franz Kafka, the band name itself taken from the main character from the author's work "The Trial".

10:07 PM
The Feelies - Moscow Nights
The Feelies Moscow Nights
Crazy Rhythms Domino Recording Co 2009

1980 debut LP from this New Jersey post-punk band. Commercially overlooked in their time but certainly influential with many college rock acts that would follow later that decade.

10:11 PM
Bauhaus - Dancing
Bauhaus Dancing
Bauhaus - 1979-1983 Volume One Beggars Banquet 1986

"Dancing" was first included in the band's second studio LP "Mask" from 1981 and saw the band incorporate saxophone on select cuts.

10:14 PM
Isolation Ward - Illusions
Isolation Ward Illusions
Point Final LTM Recordings 2009

Belgian post-punk band formed in 1979 and heavily inspired by Joy Division. Lumped into the Cold Wave movement of the late 70s and early 80s used to denote European bands that recorded chilly post-punk.

10:17 PM
The Lines - Bucket Brigade
The Lines Bucket Brigade
Flood Bank Acute Records 2008

Late 70s/early 80s English post-punk band. Not to be confused with the late 2000s indie rock band by the same name. Seriously overlooked post-punk; thank your deity for these Acute releases collecting the band's works.

10:26 PM
Minimal Man - Two People
Minimal Man Two People
The Shroud Of LTM Publishing 1980

Debut LP from this haunting experimental San Francisco-based post-punk band. Line-up at one point consisted of members from Tuxedomoon.

10:28 PM
Tuxedomoon - Fifth Column
Tuxedomoon Fifth Column
Half-Mute / Scream With a View CramBoy 1987

More experimental San Francisco-based post-punk from 1980. Originally released on The Residents' Ralph Records label.

10:31 PM
Vyy - Feralist
Vyy Feralist
Ardorous Gyre Vyy 2018

More experimental stuff, with a doomy layer, from this Brooklyn-based duo.

10:37 PM
Burnt Skull - Harm
Burnt Skull Harm
Sewer Birth 12XU 2014

Only full-length release from this Austin noise-rock band. C'mon, were you expecting something else with a cut titled "Harm" from the album "Sewer Birth" by a band named Burnt Skull? Sunshine and lollipops.

10:39 PM
Daughters - Long Road, No Turns
Daughters Long Road, No Turns
You Won't Get What You Want Ipecac Recordings / Liberator Music 2018

One of my top releases from 2018. Rhode Island noise rock band that incorporates elements of sludge and grindcore with hopeless lyrics to create a suffocating feel (at least on this release).

10:50 PM
The Fall - Monocard
The Fall Monocard
Ersatz GB Cherry Red Records 2011

28th studio LP from Mark E. Smith and company, which would turn out to be one of the most consistent versions of the band he'd put together.

10:57 PM
Glenn Branca - Structure
Glenn Branca Structure
The Ascension Systems Neutralizers 1981

Avant-garde guitarist and founding member of the No Wave band Theoretical Girls. "The Ascension" was his debut studio LP partly influenced by John Coltrane. In turn, this album would go on to influence Swans and Sonic Youth (Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth is credited on this release).

11:01 PM
Qui - New Orleans
Qui New Orleans
Love's Miracle Ipecac Recordings 2007

Collaboration between Los Angeles noise-rock duo Qui with Scratch Acid/The Jesus Lizard frontman David Yow on vocals. Missed out on a chance to see them many years ago at Club Congress. One of the few ragrets in my life.

11:05 PM
Shellac - Disgrace
Shellac Disgrace
Terraform Touch and Go Records 1998

Second studio LP from Steve Albini, Todd Trainer, and Bob Weston, self-described "minimalist rock trio".

11:07 PM
Zeni Geva - Dead Sun Rising
Zeni Geva Dead Sun Rising

11:10 PM
Big'n - Like a Killer
Big'n Like a Killer
Spare the Horses - EP Africantape 2011

Illinois noise-rock band heavily active throughout the 90s and disbanded in 1997. Reunited a decade or so later and started recording again.

11:14 PM
Deftones - Rx Queen
Deftones Rx Queen
White Pony Maverick 2000

Yes, it's the Deftones, a cut from the band's experimental third studio LP and one heavily influenced by The Cure.

11:18 PM
Godflesh - New Dark Ages
Godflesh New Dark Ages
A World Lit Only By Fire Avalanche Recordings 2017

Experimental industrial metal (or whatever labels your prefer) band formed by Napalm Death founder Justin Broadrick.

11:28 PM
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name
Iron Maiden Hallowed Be Thy Name
The Number of the Beast Parlophone UK 2015

You hear about that principal in Canada that some parents wanted fired because she posted a pic of herself wearing Iron Maiden gear outside a stadium prior to a Maiden show? What's up with that?

11:36 PM
Living Colour - Funny Vibe
Living Colour Funny Vibe
Vivid Epic 1988

So Living Colour is now associated in the mainstream pop culture with wrestler CM Punk, as "Cult of Personality" - a great song in its own right - has been Punk's entrance theme for years. Don't sleep on other Living Colour cuts,

11:40 PM
Melvins - Suicide in Progress
Melvins Suicide in Progress
Nude with Boots Ipecac Recordings 2008

Another band that rolls through Tucson on occasion. Following my move to Tucson, kept missing the Melvins live. Finally got a chance to see them and my penance is to never miss them moving forward.

11:48 PM
Oneida - Captain Bo Dignifies the Aligations With a Response
Oneida Captain Bo Dignifies the Aligations With a Response
Secret Wars Jagjaguwar 2004

Experimental band based out of Brooklyn.

11:50 PM
Tiger! Shit! Tiger! Tiger! - Forever Young
Tiger! Shit! Tiger! Tiger! Forever Young
Forever Young To Lose La Track 2013

Quirky Italian band whose band name you can't say on American radio (maybe some other countries, too; we're pretty puritanical here).

"For those of us that are literate" That leaves most of us out.
Julio P. (host) 10:11:04 PM
We are all just monkeys typing on a keyboard
Bama Dan 10:12:07 PM
Seriously, The Feelies were played earlier today, a cover of The Beatles, off the same album (Crazy Rhythms). What a fantastic album.
Julio P. (host) 10:12:35 PM
Was it Hannah?
Bama Dan 10:12:44 PM
Duncan
Julio P. (host) 10:12:58 PM
Nice, go Duncan!
Bama Dan 10:14:13 PM
He's amazing.
Bama Dan 10:18:50 PM
Isolation Ward...nice!
Julio P. (host) 10:19:10 PM
You familiar with?
Bama Dan 10:20:47 PM
About the same time that I was getting into Joy Division, which was late: 1980-ish. Lots happening at that time!
Julio P. (host) 10:21:04 PM
For sure! Too bad I was just a lil' egg
Bama Dan 10:22:03 PM
Great set, btw...
Julio P. (host) 10:26:26 PM
thanks!
Izzy K 10:27:43 PM
fella is staring into my soul
Julio P. (host) 10:27:53 PM
right!?
Bama Dan 10:29:55 PM
Saw Tuxedomoon in SF in 1980. I loved what they were doing at the time. They were also on Ralph Records with The Residents.
Julio P. (host) 10:30:31 PM
haha, I typed that in my motes before you did on the chat!
Bama Dan 10:30:37 PM
LOL
Julio P. (host) 10:30:37 PM
*notes
Bama Dan 10:30:55 PM
But I had never heard of Minimal Man!
Julio P. (host) 10:31:25 PM
I recommend Two Little Skeletons from that debut LP
Bama Dan 10:31:44 PM
Thanks!
Bama Dan 10:38:33 PM
Another new band for me: Vyy
Bama Dan 10:38:50 PM
You've got a great show, Julio.
Julio P. (host) 10:40:13 PM
glad you're enjoying it with these abrasive cuts
Bama Dan 10:41:01 PM
Yeah man. This is some raw stuff. Different.
Bama Dan 10:41:44 PM
And LOL at Burnt Skull.
Bama Dan 10:47:52 PM
Is that a harpsichord at the end of the Daughters tune?!? Creepy. :-)
Julio P. (host) 10:50:20 PM
The album cover for that Daughters release will also stare into your soul.
Bama Dan 10:58:10 PM
Really late submission for The Fall, but you're right: a damned fine album.
Izzy K 11:02:04 PM
theres this old clip of glenn branca out there on youtube where he's just improvising this loud dissonant solo for a couple of minutes, its definitely something
Julio P. (host) 11:02:16 PM
oooooooo I need to find that
Izzy K 11:02:51 PM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqHz7cUw4Ls
Julio P. (host) 11:03:41 PM
Thanks! That is what it looks like when I play guitar, with zero of the talent or intention possessed by Branca.
Bama Dan 11:05:39 PM
What a fantastic clip! Love this!
Bama Dan 11:08:34 PM
Are we talking the same Bob Weston, from Fleetwood Mac?
Julio P. (host) 11:09:27 PM
haha noo
Bama Dan 11:10:08 PM
Awwww...so disappointed...
Julio P. (host) 11:10:23 PM
what if I said yes?
Bama Dan 11:10:31 PM
LOL
Izzy K 11:11:04 PM
I'd like to see what an Albini-produced Fleetwood Mac record sounds like
Julio P. (host) 11:11:46 PM
In my head? Probably like a rawer, melodic PJ Harvey album
Izzy K 11:13:02 PM
now thats a good album cover right there, very tasteful
Julio P. (host) 11:13:44 PM
Zeni Geva?
Izzy K 11:13:59 PM
the big'n horse art
Izzy K 11:14:07 PM
but yes that too
Julio P. (host) 11:14:11 PM
hahaha
Bama Dan 11:18:16 PM
Is tonight's theme "My Little Pony"?
Julio P. (host) 11:18:27 PM
Friendship Is Magic
Ed Kuklinski 11:28:58 PM
I saw Qui at Vaudeville, with this awesome Japanese all girl pop punk band Gito Gito Hustler, freakin great show. Did they play congo too?
Julio P. (host) 11:29:35 PM
Did play at Club Congress but pretty sure I fell asleep and missed it
Julio P. (host) 11:31:17 PM
Also, this may be the record for most chat messages on my show, or close to it
Bama Dan 11:34:18 PM
Only because we knew that Iron Maiden was up.
Julio P. (host) 11:34:41 PM
Up the irons!
Julio P. (host) 11:35:22 PM
Maybe I'll start playing some New Wave of British Heavy Metal
Ed Kuklinski 11:38:18 PM
Thinking about Qui, I'm all reminiscing about Vaudeville shows, can you play The Beauty of Internal Darkness, by 400 Blows?
Julio P. (host) 11:39:24 PM
Not familiar with 400 Blows. Gonna look into it. Love the French film though
Ed Kuklinski 11:40:00 PM
Yup, the source of the band name
Bama Dan 11:55:27 PM
You were right: you delved into some "other areas" in the second hour, which was totally welcome. Great show.
Julio P. (host) 11:55:29 PM
Goodnight, Wisconsin!
Ed Kuklinski 11:55:38 PM
Great show, Julio!
Julio P. (host) 11:55:54 PM
Thanks! Not joking about the british heavy metal
