I sometimes suspect that Gaelic is a practical joke on the Latin-Alphabet-using world.
Matt Moon (host) 6:51:51 PM
John - you're right! When I asked a linguist "what's the story with Gaelic?!?" he shared with me that the Celts specifically made the written form impossible to read and translate into the oral tradition in an effort to preserve culture as much as possible. Protection of language is paramount to cultural survival. So if you can keep the colonizers from learning your language, you'll be alright.
Matt Moon (host) 6:53:25 PM
After all, how the hell is
Matt Moon (host) 6:53:57 PM
"Celidh" pronounced "Kaylee"?
Bama Dan 7:03:34 PM
Fascinating discussion about language, and protection. Almost bordering on Navaho code-talkers.
John George 7:06:55 PM
For "make fools of the landowners" values of "preserve culture".

Matt Moon (host) 7:57:05 PM
Thank you Corbin! Where did two hours go?!? I have hours of stuff I didn't get to...dammit.
