Fourth and final studio LP from one of my favorite (and yours, too!) 80s punk bands! Not enough is said about the connections between punk and art. DK wouldn't be DK without the band's collaboration with artist Winston Smith. Check out this short video by MOCA focusing on "The Art of Punk" highlighting the connection between the band and Smith:

Originally released in 1984. No surprise the lyrics focus on swordfighting, as frontman Bruce Dickinson is a fencer. This cut was later included on the soundtrack to the Dario Argento horror film Phenomena Also on said soundtrack: Sex Gang Children.

AK-47 were mostly active in the early 80s out of Houston. Politically charged lyrics, often attacking the local police force, led to several confrontations at local shows with the cops. "Kiss My Machine" is the B-side to the 1980 single "The Badge Means You Suck". The single is difficult to find and long out-of-print, though the band has made it available for download through its Bandcamp page.

Sixth and final studio LP from the Southern California hardcore punk act, delving even further into Greg Ginn's musical playground (apparently this was meant to be a Ginn solo album?). Like Dead Kennedys and Winston Smith, one can't talk about Black Flag without noting the collaborations with artist Raymond Pettibone. Here's MOCA, again:

1986 debut LP from this NYC-based hardcore punk band. Because of the slight metal injections throughout, the band was sometimes cited as a crossover thrash band.

Latest (and now final) album from this Buffalo, NY, crossover band. Sudden legal and personal issues splintered the band, hot on the heels of being recognized as having released a stand-out album in 2021.

One of two albums released by Melvins last year, the other being Working With God. Here, Melvins find themselves revisiting their classics (plus favorites from other artists) and giving it all an acoustic twist, still with plenty of Melvins bite!

Closing cut to the newest LP from the Northwest Indiana shoegaze inspired trio. A concept album of sorts (when incorporating the insert/cover/back) focused on a future Earth wiped out from a tragic physics accident.

Latest from the Canadian genre-bending band. Heavy sci-fi elements throughout. I maintain Voivod should have received all the fame, acclaim, and money that Canadian counterparts Rush reaped.

Originally released in 1971. First CAN album to feature Damo Suzuki on vocals. Depending on your interpretation, this song is either about an atomic detonation or psylocibin.

Latest release from the Scottish post-rock instrumentalists. Critics noted Mogwai mostly dispensed with long-drawn out pieces in favor of quicker bursts of releases. I dunno, that is what I read!
