No, it goes along...well, closer to...the Gulf Coast in this part of the country. So it goes through Mobile, about 350 miles to the south.

Oh, dang. That's a hop and a skip.

:-) The last trip I made to Tucson, it was about a 3 days' drive. Not too bad!

As a friend told me when I left town for a spell,

I'm embarrassed to say that I've never seen Animal House. Still, I'd wager that song was used in a slow-motion scene? I also think it was used in a remake of one of the Romero Zombie movies--Dawn of the Dead, maybe?

At some point on the chat this morning, I want to shout out to DJ El Toro and his new Friday evening show "Inside/Out". Like SMC, the connections he explores are fascinating.

David, I blew out the speakers in my first car within days, and one of my eardrums before I was 25, so I've been an avowed speaker luddite for forever.

‘The Last Time’ might be my father’s favorite song. I always think of him when I hear it.

Pylon! I 100% love this song!

I was gifted the vinyl box set last year, and I'm still so excited, lol.

Indeed! I was moping around the house lamenting that it was sold out, and it turns out my vinyl fairy had already made plans 😝.

You chose your vinyl fairy well!

I discovered Pylon well into adulthood, so it was a long time before I realized that the R.E.M. tune, "Crazy" that I loved so much was actually a cover.

Evidently, Pylon opened for R.E.M. for a few dates on their Green album tour.

My wife got to sing with Pylon briefly, in that they played Houston and she was up front and the singer spontaneously held the mic up to my wife to sing “Beep Beep” at the appropriate moment. I wasn’t there… I was at a Jello Biafra show that night. Divide and conquer.

Holy cow! Now THAT is a cool story. Divide and conquer, indeed!

I always felt like in retrospect that I went to the wrong show that night. Biafra returned, but Pylon split shortly thereafter.

Thanks for playing Spinning Away, Cheron! One of my first exposures to "prog rock" in the mid 70s - or at least something other than mainstream - was the live album "June 1, 1974", with Eno, Cale, Nico, and Kevin Ayers. One of the foundational moments in my own musical journey!

Thanks for that memory, Dan! Talk about unassailably good record.
