I'll tell you a little bit about that composition.. it is a bolero by composer Pedro Flores from Puerto Rico and made famous by Daniel Santos who performed with la Sonora Matancera - Cuba.. this album by Noche profunda takes boleros and does them in rock style.. highly recommend the entire album

I don't think they are a formal band, rather a group of musicians, independent all who come together to perform boleros.. this compilation is wonderful.

Had never heard of Tonantzin before tonight, but getting into it. Is it Nahuatl in origin?

Tonantzin refers to the maternal mexica goddess of the eart. Was also celebrated by the Mexica during the month of December. They made the relationship to the Virgin of Guadalupe, and so the equated the goddess of the earth with the Mary the mother of God. Tonantzin also had a temple in the Tepeyac, the same place where the Virgin appeared back in 1531. For the Inca, it is Pachamama, the goddess of mother earth in Andean mythology.

Thanks for this, Nenny G. I think I'm still looking at history of peoples, who occupied what is now Mexico prior to the Spanish, from what I learned in the 1970s. At that time we were told about the Toltecs, Mixtecs, Olmecs, and Zapotecs. I'm sure by now this has all been updated but I still use words like "Nahuatl" to reflect earlier languages. Always so much to learn!
