10:04 PM
Pixies - Debaser
Pixies Debaser
Doolittle 4AD 1989

Opening cut to the band's iconic second studio LP. The lyrics to "Debaser" are in reference to the 1929 Surrealist silent film Un Chien Andalou, directed by Luis Buñuel and written by Buñuel and Salvador Dalí.

10:07 PM
Sonic Youth - Total Trash
Sonic Youth Total Trash
Daydream Nation (Remastered) Squeaky Squawk 1988

Much has been written about Sonic Youth's landmark fifth studio double LP (so I won't bother). Fun Fact: In 2005, this LP was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry, with the registry intended to preserve recordings that "are culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant, and/or inform or reflect life in the United States."

10:14 PM
Mission of Burma - Secrets
Mission of Burma Secrets
Vs. Matador 1997

Opening cut to the 1982 debut LP from this Boston post-punk band. This would be the only full-length studio LP MoB released in the '80s, as the band disbanded several years later due to Roger Miller's tinnitus. Decades later, the band reunited for what was to be a short one-off tour. Instead, the band went back into the studio and released four LPs from 2004 to 2012.

10:18 PM
Hüsker Dü - I Apologize
Hüsker Dü I Apologize
New Day Rising SST Records 1985

Third studio LP from the Minnesota punk band. FUN FACT: Bob Mould was a writer for WCW in 1999 two years before the wrestling promotion folded, having been bought out by WWF (now WWE).

Burning from the Inside Beggars Banquet 1983

Fourth studio LP from the English Goth post-punk band. Written and recorded primarily without Peter Murphy, who was dealing with health issues throughout. Due to other members stepping into the fore, internal conflicts arose and the band broke up prior to this album's release.

10:41 PM
Gang of Four - Return the Gift
Gang of Four Return the Gift

Debut LP from this English post-punk band, whose influence is heard from '80s contemporaries Au Pairs through recent bands such as Radio 4 and Franz Ferdinand

The Smashing Pumpkins Cherub Rock
Siamese Dream Virgin Records 2012

Lead single from this classic 1993 record. Billy Corgan insisted on "Cherub Rock" being the first single released; studio execs wanted "Today" to be released first. Corgan won out, but "Today' performed better, which goes to show we should give in to our corporate overlords.

11:11 PM
Soundgarden - Rusty Cage
Soundgarden Rusty Cage

11:25 PM
Ceremony - Root of the World
Ceremony Root of the World

Jeff R called it: your Jesus beard is the only reason I listen to you!
Julio P. (host) 10:05:24 PM
Haha, can you hear music?
Bama Dan 10:05:52 PM
Oh...yeah...that!
Julio P. (host) 10:06:12 PM
Hi, but for real?
Bama Dan 10:06:27 PM
Nice opener. Doolittle.
Bama Dan 10:06:36 PM
Yes!
Julio P. (host) 10:06:57 PM
Niiice.
Bama Dan 10:12:37 PM
You're not going to play songs that are over 4 minutes tonight, are you?
Julio P. (host) 10:13:25 PM
Most are in the three/four minute range.
Bama Dan 10:13:32 PM
lol
Julio P. (host) 10:13:42 PM
Some even under two minutes!
Bama Dan 10:13:59 PM
That's pretty typical!
Julio P. (host) 10:14:09 PM
Trueee.
Julio P. (host) 10:14:50 PM
Few weeks ago I played a 35 second Black Flag cut.
Bama Dan 10:16:25 PM
And you've played King Crimson: Starless, at about 12 minutes...
Julio P. (host) 10:16:59 PM
Pretty sure I've played 20 minute Godspped You Black Emperir cuts, too.
Julio P. (host) 10:17:39 PM
There was that 60-minute Sleep cut once...
Bama Dan 10:18:32 PM
There was one HEH edition where you had, maybe, 10 songs total...and they were monumental. Can't remember what they were or how long...
Bama Dan 10:18:56 PM
You've done well, Julio.
Julio P. (host) 10:19:51 PM
I remember that show!
Julio P. (host) 10:20:01 PM
7 songs total or something
Bama Dan 10:20:28 PM
Yeah! It wasn't that long ago! It was pretty freaking cool!
Julio P. (host) 10:20:46 PM
Won't got the opposite end, though. Too stressful.
Bama Dan 10:21:46 PM
Well, the Residents did their Commercial Album, of one minute songs. You could do that, but it would be a lot of work.
Julio P. (host) 10:26:01 PM
Need an eyeball mask
Bama Dan 10:26:41 PM
I'll email you a photo from the late 70s.
Julio P. (host) 10:27:00 PM
That could ne anything!
Bama Dan 10:29:19 PM
Exactly. It's frightening.
Julio P. (host) 10:29:37 PM
oh boy
Bama Dan 10:30:12 PM
Yeah. IT gets worse.
Julio P. (host) 10:31:07 PM
I genuinely have no idea what to expect
Julio P. (host) 10:31:36 PM
On the topic of song length, I forgot this Bauhaus cut is 9 minutos
Bama Dan 10:32:53 PM
On the way to your inbox.
Bama Dan 10:33:54 PM
But is length a problem? It never seems to have been in the past...
Julio P. (host) 10:34:22 PM
That pic was amazing and deserves to be shared with the world.
Bama Dan 10:34:53 PM
Thanks. My friend and I worked SO HARD on those costumes!
Julio P. (host) 10:35:34 PM
That is a stage worthy eyeball.
Bama Dan 10:36:34 PM
We were such fans of those guys...
Julio P. (host) 10:37:28 PM
They're still doing their thing. Believe they have a Tucson date coming up, if it hasn't already happened.
Bama Dan 10:38:05 PM
Wow!
Bama Dan 10:38:52 PM
I saw them in LA in 1982, and they boggled the mind. They've gone through some changes since then, though...
Julio P. (host) 10:42:48 PM
Are they like the Blue Men Group? Different people take up the mantle but you can't tell because of the disguise/costume?
Bama Dan 10:44:43 PM
Damn, I don't know, Julio...they were so unique. How could anyone else take up the mantle?
Julio P. (host) 10:45:18 PM
*shrugmanemoji*
Bama Dan 10:47:07 PM
Meanwhile, thank you for this: Gof4! They did Return the Gift when I saw them in Nashville a year ago last March!
Julio P. (host) 10:47:31 PM
Ahhh yeah!
Bama Dan 10:47:44 PM
So Sweet!
Bama Dan 10:54:45 PM
Very cool that you're promoting punk artists from Latin America. Danae (Night Interlude) does a great job of finding new music each week. I'm continually amazed at what she finds.
Julio P. (host) 10:55:36 PM
Yeah, I scour those playlists. Cool stuff. I need to explore other global regions for this show.
Bama Dan 10:56:04 PM
Word. So much good new music.
Julio P. (host) 11:02:35 PM
Here's another FACS cut, as promised last week.
Bama Dan 11:04:35 PM
SO freaking cool...
Julio P. (host) 11:05:33 PM
Album's slowly growing on me.
Bama Dan 11:05:58 PM
I love the odd time signature.
Julio P. (host) 11:06:16 PM
Makes this song.
Bama Dan 11:07:22 PM
Where did you find this, Julio?
Julio P. (host) 11:07:54 PM
FACS? Os The Smashing Pumpkins?
Bama Dan 11:08:12 PM
Lol...FACS
Julio P. (host) 11:08:38 PM
Discovered their debut on some best of list for 2021. Kept tabs on the band since then
Bama Dan 11:08:51 PM
Good stuff.
Julio P. (host) 11:09:06 PM
Touring the US soon. No Tucson stops, though
Bama Dan 11:09:34 PM
Will look for them
Julio P. (host) 11:09:56 PM
Mostly in New ENgland and upper Mid-west. Middle of the tour now
Bama Dan 11:10:07 PM
I've already seen Smashing Pun'kins...
Julio P. (host) 11:10:33 PM
Yeah, Billy Corgan is on another level now, and not in a good way
Bama Dan 11:10:38 PM
Will look. Thanks.
Bama Dan 11:10:58 PM
Agree...don't like it.
Julio P. (host) 11:11:24 PM
Can't believe he booked Tyrus to be the NWA heavyweight cahmpion in his wretling promotion
Bama Dan 11:11:29 PM
I saw 'em back in 1996?
Julio P. (host) 11:11:37 PM
Terrible booker.
Bama Dan 11:11:44 PM
What an asshole.
Julio P. (host) 11:12:10 PM
haha
Julio P. (host) 11:12:20 PM
This yiou?: https://i.gifer.com/YbB3.mp4
Bama Dan 11:12:24 PM
They were great back then.
Bama Dan 11:12:49 PM
LOL, I love that episode of the Simpsons!
Julio P. (host) 11:13:34 PM
Classic period.
Bama Dan 11:18:20 PM
Gotta hand it to you, Julio...Really like the way you spotlight new artists on HEH. Respect.
Julio P. (host) 11:18:48 PM
Thanks! Always nice to discover new stuff. I try to be selective.
Bama Dan 11:19:09 PM
Totally agree.
Bama Dan 11:28:56 PM
I have no memory whatsoever of these guys...Ceremony...but the lead vocalist reminds me of Feargal Sharkey, from The Undertones.
Julio P. (host) 11:30:08 PM
Interesting. I'll have to go back and listen for that. Their transition from a powerviolence band to a now folksy act (based on their most recent 2022 EP) is hilarious
Bama Dan 11:30:46 PM
Yeah, right? And they started in like 2005? I'm a bit confused by that.
Julio P. (host) 11:31:11 PM
Catch more bees with honey. Powerviolence is a very limiting genre.
Bama Dan 11:31:35 PM
I had the same reaction to that as you did.
Julio P. (host) 11:31:57 PM
hahaha
Bama Dan 11:32:07 PM
😁
Bama Dan 11:38:38 PM
❤️
Bama Dan 11:47:17 PM
Straw Man Army: this is really good stuff, Julio. I don't remember this from last year?
Julio P. (host) 11:47:29 PM
I played some cuts here and there
Bama Dan 11:47:42 PM
K
Bama Dan 11:53:23 PM
Of course...Dumb Waiters was a release from Talk Talk Talk, from Mid-1981. I saw them on this tour.
Julio P. (host) 11:53:46 PM
You've seen a lot!
Bama Dan 11:54:00 PM
Their first two albums remain my favorite.
Julio P. (host) 11:54:32 PM
Oh, yeah, they are great. Dig this comp, too, which was my introduction to the band. "President Gas" always hits.
Bama Dan 11:56:13 PM
Yeah, President Gas is amazing. And there are a few incredible tunes from Forever Now that I do like. But I'm partial to the first two albums.
Julio P. (host) 11:57:18 PM
Well, thanks for listening and the chatting. Now get to sleeping!
Bama Dan 11:57:37 PM
Thanks, Julio! It's been fun!
