Born on this day in 1911: Joe Turner, (best known as Big Joe Turner), US blues songwriter. He wrote 'Sweet Sixteen' and was the first to record 'Shake, Rattle and Roll'. Turner died on 23rd November 1985 at the age of 74 of heart failure, having suffered the earlier effects of arthritis, a stroke and diabetes and was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.

Born on this day in 1961: Russell Senior, guitarist with English rock band Pulp, who had the 1995 UK No.2 single 'Common People'. He quit the band in January 1997. Pulp were regarded among the Britpop "big four", along with Oasis, Blur and Suede.

Released as the album's seventh single (sixth and final in the U.S.) in October 1994, the track was written and produced by Jackson and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Based on samples from Diana Ross & the Supremes' 1968 song "Love Child" and Kool & the Gang's 1973 song "Jungle Boogie", the song is about Jackson being told by her girls that a guy is watching and wanting her.

Witch, the Zambian garage and psych rock band who released music in the 1970s and ’80s, have announced their first new album in 39 years: Zango is out June 2 via Desert Daze Sound.

It was on this day six years ago that we lost the amazing voice of Chris Cornell. Cornell died the early morning of May 18, 2017, after playing a Soundgarden show in Detroit the night before. His death was ruled a suicide. A posthumous Cornell solo covers album, No One Sings Like You Anymore, Vol. 1, was released in 2020. Soundgarden had also been working on new material prior to Cornell’s death, the recordings of which were the subject of a long-running legal battle between the band and Chris’ widow, Vicky Cornell. Just last month, Soundgarden and Vicky announced that they’d reconciled their legal issues, paving the way for those final recordings to be released.
