Cop / Young God Mute 2015

Opening cut from Swan's 1984 second studio LP. Then based out of NYC, Swans combined elements of industrial, noise, and No Wave to create a pummeling, dark sound on their early recordings. Early Swans was also an influence on Godflesh.

Black Flag - Scream
Black Flag Scream
My War SST Records 1984

Divisive second studio LP from Black Flag, particularly Side B which found the band diving head-first into sludge and away from the hardcore punk sound fans came to expect. The main riff on this cut dates back to 1982, as the band would play it on-stage between cuts when dealing with equipment. Ginn would revisit the riff and stretch it out to a complete song, heard here as the closing cut to My War.

I always love reading your playlist notes, Julio. You are one of the few DJs to clarify the year of the release in question. Case in point: The Slits (Cut), which was in 1979, and NOT 2009. I'm a stickler for that, and I appreciate you clarifying it.
Julio P. (host) 10:53:19 PM
