This is so cool! I've heard these sounds, I just didn't know they were Dayton. Feels like we are moving up to 200 level courses
Tyina (host) 2:33:15 PM
Hey Chris! I grew up with so much of this music but didn't know it was from one place, let alone Dayton. Lots of people in my family listened to these bands when I was young.
Tony BZ 2:45:00 PM
As a white boy growing up in Dayton in the 70's & 80's you didn't let mama know you were hanging out in that-part-of-town... I'm so glad I did! I remember 2 brothers back then with the nicknames of Zip & Zap... Fabu "jive assed" tunes! Thanks Tyina for spinning wonderous music!
Tyina (host) 2:46:47 PM
Hi Tony! It's been fascinating to learn about race and segregation in Dayton while prepping this show. Your hometown gave the world some of the best music of the late 20th century!
Tony BZ 4:46:09 PM
Yes, very segregated in Dayton back then, perhaps less now. Hopefully society will never return to the division & insanity of the 'race riot' years--> Re: National Guard armored vehicles, blocking downtown Dayton bridges to the west side with troops manning machine guns, pointed west... Shared music brings people together. Thanks-For great job as always!
