The Foundation, a musical journey into the origins of some of our most powerful and popular music today, is designed to educate the listener on the jazz, funk, soul, and disco artists mostly from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, whose voices and instruments were sampled directly to help make some of the most creative hip-hop beats ever heard. Producers like Pete Rock, Alchemist, Knxwledge, Exile, DJ Premier, House Shoes, Nottz, Jay Dee, Madlib, Ski, Large Professor, and many others utilize a wide variety of samples from artists like The Headhunters, The Skull Snaps, Jaco Pastorius, Eugene McDaniels, The Charmels, Gap Mangione, and David Axelrod to serve as not only a foundation to build and shape their beats, but a foundation for hip-hop as a whole.
